Commiserations on the result today, folks. Obviously you have been decimated by injuries, which have been pretty well wallpapered for the last few weeks but today our height in the forward line was a little too much to overcome with an undersized and inexperienced defence.

Anyhow, just wondering what you thought of the umpiring today. We noticed some absolutely baffling decisions particularly from Umpire no. 12. I don't think it had a huge effect on the result and the free kick count was probably quite even (haven't checked). But being naturally biased, I don't often see the bad decisions that go our way. Did you guys cop anything that made you go WTF?

What had me going WTF was the Bronx cheers the North supporters gave the umpires when you guys were double our score in the last quarter and had just as many dubious decisions paid to you as we had for us. Ferchrissakes, that 50m penalty on Flash was an absolute shocker.

The crowd was likely following the misfortunes of this one peanut who coincidentally also made the shocker decision in the closing seconds of our drawn game with Richmond. I am not surprised that there were dubious decisions going both ways. We had 3 of the least experienced umpires going around. I guess when you're 14th and 16th, you cop the dregs from Giesch.

Maybe the umpires department have a few injuries and were experimenting as well. I don't remember his name but I know that number 12 battles.

His name is Sully. Not to be confused with Scully. One will win you games, the other is to be avoided. ;)

There was one where Petrie (I'm pretty sure it was Petrie) cleanly nudged Dunn under the ball with his body on the wing, took the mark and was off that was called hands in the back, they really don't understand the interpretation it seems the maggots in yellow.

If we hadn't got that "free" Petrie was off and going.

I didn't focus too much on the umpiring, I was too busy looking at the f***ed up moves Bailey was "experimenting" with.

There were a few dodgy ones but there always are. The "dogyness" of the decisions is normally amplified by how loud the crowd is and today's crowd was a shocker in terms of noise and atmosphere. If it were a Collingwood vs Carlton game then things might have been different.

The Petrie one wasn't hands in the back but it was a forearm to the side/back. You can use your forearm placed on the back of someone but you can't push off with it. The Petrie free would have been a free (well should have been) even before the hands in the back rule because it was a blatant push with his forearm into the side/back of Dunn. Sure, Dunn milked it as he always does but it was far too obvious by Petrie.

I do agree that a clearer interpretation is needed though for umpires, players and fans.

Im not sure which umpire was closest, but who ever it was should have reported Silvia for LAUGHING, when Gibson booted it the wrong way!!!!!!

Thanks for that post Snrub, much appreciated mate... and I know you guys have had a lot of the same injury troubles that we've had this season too.

Hopefully both our clubs have a better run with that next year.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out this wasn't a big umpire bitch thread. Personally I stopped whining about umpires a long time ago. They aren't going to change, and 95% of the time games are no decided on the umpires whistle. I like to think too that Dees supporters are generally accepting of this fact, and it separates us from incessant Collingwood and Essendon fans, who regardless of how good or bad umpiring was, will still clog up talk back lines to complain that they got a raw deal, when stats show that they tend to get a pretty good ride.

FWIW I didn't really notice the umps too much today and was a bit baffled with the bronx cheers the North fans gave.
