What Freo players can lift their game to the next level?, well honestly all the boys, but who has teetered on the brink off going to the next level but has faltered?. If these players lift, they will add to the players making the solid progression each year.
Cunningham - shows glimpses and then goes quiet, must be more consistent.
TLo - looks good when injury free, must have a good pre season to get in the coaches sights (otherwise the Cardies will see alot of him) as he can kick over lines.
JLo - progressed well in 2001 but was held back by a leg injury in 2002. Has good hands for marking but his injury affected his kicking. He could be very good with 45 plus goals for the season.
Woods - shows alot but he looks very laconic, he is my smokey to really light up as he will be hard to match up on, tall wingman?.
Waterhouse - Clive will still be Clive but he may have benefited by the layoff in that he will come back full of beans and he now has players who can shark the crumbs he creates (Farmer & Medhurst). Love him or not, he creates a contest.
Cook - needs to finish off his hard work, known for bad skills but watching some tapes over the summer shows that he actually has a pretty good kick (kicks unbalanced alot?). Mr Headland will definitely compliment his style of play.
There are a few suggestions, players like Pav, Simmonds, Parker, Grover, Hazelby and yes Mr McManus will improve naturally.
I think Headland will thrive on the new responsibility, Bell will be more forward and sink a couple of majors when needed, Farmer will be happier in his pocket and Medhurst shouldn't be affected by the second year blues as he is an "experienced" player.
That's all positive, being realistic some players may struggle to attain the same standard as last year, as a supporter you only hope that a player or two rises up to cover the "down" player.
