This will not do him any good.
He's been trying to get in to the side for quite a while and when he finally does he is dropped after two games. Disgraceful move by the coaching staff as his first two games were very solid. great pressure and goes in hard.

I am so dissapointed and feel for him. So disgusted with this decision

instead dunn bode and chris johnson get a chance of playing

____ing pathetic

I agree Ricky. Valenti didn't deserve to be dropped at all. I hope the decision was based on match ups and it was explained to him because otherwise he would be as frustrated as hell

i just cant imagine what shane would be thinking.

what else can he do to cement his spot in the side.

hes a star player and cant make the bottom sides team

terrible

Valenti will defiantly have something against the coaching staff for this move... If they keep that shit up he'll end up wanting to move to different club... Boils my blood!

We as a growing and re-building footy club should reward our youngsters
such as Valenti for the courage and pressure he has shown, NOT insult him by dropping him for BODE!!!???

I beleive this kid could be a future Sammy Mitchell, he just needs to get chance...

I agree with you guys I have been watching his progress and even put him in my DT because he looked a very good player who is prepared to have a go.
Cheers & Good Luck

i saw it coming, and to be honest it doesn't bother me that much... he's had a bit of a taste, and he can go back to the VFL and continue to work at his game...

while he showed he had the composure required at AFL level, and his disposal was solid, we'd be looking for shane to win contested posessions and clearances... over his two games he got 4 clearances, and 6 contested posessions... while he didn't get a massive run in the guts, he didn't do that well in the area we'd expect him to, and i think that's why he's missed out...

he'll get another crack... but there have been blokes in the VFL like Chris Johnson and Yze who have been getting best on ground the last 3 weeks, and deserve their chance...

if you watch the match preview on the MFC website, Paul Williams said that the club will continue to select the players who are in the best form, to put the best side on the park to try and win... he also said that this is the first week where where we would drop players who are in good form, and that in his time at the club he can't remember that ever happening...

shane will get another crack, and he'll be better prepared to take it...

and on a side note, i think CJ will get a run this weekend, and will come out and show us what he's promised but never delivered during his time at the club... his last game for Melbourne was quite good, he got a good number of posessions but turned the ball over a bit... now if there's ever been a question over CJ it hasn't been his skills, it's been his ability to win the ball, something which he showed he could do...

I think Bails' game plan suits him quite well, as he will run and support well off half back, and use the ball well when he gets it...

I think he will get his go again this year. I think Bailey has found a balance between deserving your chance and playing some kids for development. Garland got a bit of a chance, maybe more than he deserved, then got dropped but is now back and looking good. Maybe the same thing will happen to Valenti.

Jeez, some people are too easily rustled.

He's had two games to show us what he can do, hes done nothing special so its only fair someone else on the fringe gets a go too, CJ has been killing it at Sandy and deserves a couple of games himself. Ditto Yze for that matter. You've got to reward form, and to bring a player in, someone has to be dropped, Valenti's only a fringe player at the moment.

He'll be around for years to come, the likes of CJ and Bode are playing for careers, let them have a go.

Valenti has a more promising future than Johnson (worst Father Son pick ever) and bode.

I disagree mate. Just because you are playing well in the seconds does not give you an automatic right to have a go in the firsts. Valenti has had two games and is only getting better - he adds some run, some good decision making under pressure and some grunt into a side that has been begging for those three things for as long as I can remember.

It has to work both ways i.e. the player in the seconds has to absolutely kill it in the seconds and a player in the firsts has to let the team down on more than one occasion or do some undisciplined act that deserves an automatic dropping otherwise the coaching staff are rewarding good performances in the seconds and punishing blokes who have consistently performed well in the seconds and have not put a foot wrong in the firsts - what player wouldn't be frustrated with that BS?

Lets not get too carried with Valenti.

He's had a dozen or so possessions in two games so far. If CJ had that, you'd want him dropped, ditto a Buckley or a Yze. In terms of basic team balance also, we are still an outsider short IMO, Jones, McLean, McDonald and Moloney are good in and close, if we have another receiver in CJ roaming around, it can only help, not to mention his foot skills are usually pretty good.

EDIT - Might I add we were so short on a HBF that our (2 time B&F midfielder) McDonald played on Rioli, so it was a given that either Whelan or CJ was going to play this week.

He's had 22 possessions in 2 games but he has not played a full game and when he has been on the ground he has been very good. Even non Demon supporters are saying that this bloke is the next big thing and he has even been compared to Sam Mitchell. IMO this guy needs game time in the firsts to further improve his skills to reach the potential that he has because he's carving them up in the seconds and is wasted there. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but to drop him after 2 games in which he has been more than a solid contributor for CJ makes no sense at all to me. Hopefully CJ comes out and plays a corker but that still does not justify dropping Valenti in the circumstances

Has anyone considered this?

Valenti was selected for the VFL state side to play the SANFL this weekend, i don't think he's been dropped because of form i'd say he wanted to play in that game.

And he'll be straight back in next week.

yes that is a very good point
of course he would wanna play for melbourne but obviously dean has said to him he can go and play in the game if he wants
he just might struggle to get back in the team if everything goes well

nah i think he will walk back into the side in 3-4 weeks. Unforetunately injury is inevitable.

Haha, you've got be kidding.

He's waited four years for the chance to play AFL, hes not going to give that up to play in a VFL state game.

I don't think so, If Whelan comes back, they drop CJ and bring Valenti in as well for Buckley. I don't know but it's unlikely everyone is going to have a good game.

He's not named in the VFL side, but i think that would've been picked before the AFL sides were out, so he'll be a late inclusion.

What injury? or are you just making an assumption?

Grimes is almost back, so by the time he got over the injury he's likely to be demoted again.

He played reasonably well in his first game but last week was found out. He was caught with the ball alot and wasn't elusive or quick enough to evade tacklers. Ther are different match ups against every team. I for one don't think he fits into the team with McLean, Jones and Moloney. If he had quick hands it mab be different. Alas

Maclean altough he is a tought nut is probably our best user of the ball and i do not see him as inside player!

Well all need to whinge and feel important, don't we?

He had 12 touches in each game. Wow. Sandy has been killing it with CJ and Yze dominating for a month. Give them a crack.
