omaha.jpg

so happy with the way I played, I'm normally quite aggressive but this tourney was mad, played 4 hands in an hour at one point, was able to use that reputation for a couple of key bluffs, then used the showing of the bluffs to get me in to contention. Made a couple of great reads too. Was short stacked right from the start of the final table up until the final 2 basically and was able to walk away with the bikkies.

Yay omaha.

Congrats. Only 36 players?

Did you teach yourself Omaha? I have never played pot limit anything, and never played Omaha either.

Ever played Crazy Pineapple or Royal Holdem?

I only played because it hit 31 players to get the payouts to top 5 rather than top 3. $20+2 as well as it being Omaha keeps the numbers down.

Pot limit is easy to work out online, I'd hate to be doing the maths live though, it's actually a good way to play though can become a crap shoot early.

I first played Omaha accidentally (sit & go), after a quick crash course with google I managed to win, now it's easily my most profitable game, though it's not always easy to get a game, and I keep getting suckered in to hi/lo which is not as profitable (yet). It's more of a thinkers game than Hold'em, a lot more things to consider and a lot more outs, therefore more suckouts, hence a need for PL rather than NL.

never heard of them

One of the funniest lines I've ever heard was from a guy in a Omaha game along the lines of "I don't want to alarm anyone but I keep getting 4 cards", not the first person to say that I'm sure but what made it unique is we'd been playing for about 40 minutes!!

Here's a tip

Another good game for profitability is limit hold'em, on pokerroom so many NL players join accidentally and get frustrated enough to throw chips away that you're a 1 in 8 rather than a 1 in 10 chance more often than not, just don't get involved until you work out who's who.

Crazy Pineapple:

Everyone gets three cards.
There is a round of betting.
A flop of three community cards is dealt. There is a round of betting.
Everyone remaining in the pot discards one of their cards. A turn card is dealt.
There is another round of betting.
A river card is dealt.
At least one of the players bitches and moans. There is another round of betting, during which the bitching and moaning player either folds or raises, depending on how tricky he thinks he is. Then the hands are shown down, and everyone figures out what they have. Players may use any combination of the two cards in their hand and the five cards on the board to make as good a "high" and as good a "low" hand as they can. There is an 8 qualifier, as is usual in casino hi-lo games.

Royal Holdem, only played on UltimateBet.com I think. Deck is just A-T, 20 cards, 6 players max. Good for a laugh with mates. Expect a lot of straights and full houses. Worst hand you can probably get dealt is J-To.

Omaha is an interesting game, some HE players would like it, coz you're actually supposed to bet and chase with your draws in omaha.

Yeah, Omaha is a drawing game, which is why many people have difficulty with it. You really need to know how to calculate outs on the spot.

I hate that. Every time I play anything other than Hold'em I get someone asking "how do I play this?"

and I keep getting suckered in to hi/lo which is not as profitable (yet).

When you get good at it, you'll find Omaha 8/OB to be more profitable, simply for the fact that you'll be looking to scoop pots, while there'll be a hundred morons in the pot looking for the best low hand (only you'll have it, also). Since many people play Omaha Hi or Pot Limit Omaha like Hold'em (which is a bad strategy, in my opinion), you get paid off a lot more in Omaha split, because newbies don't know how to play it - it's very, very different to Omaha Hi in terms of starting hands and strategy.

Did you teach yourself Omaha? I have never played pot limit anything, and never played Omaha either.

I've never played Royal Hold'em, but Crazy Pineapple is awesome. And I prefer playing Pot Limit Hold'em over No Limit in cash games, as it's more of a skill game and you can run people over more. I rarely play No Limit Hold'em online anymore, if at all. I play a variety of mixed games, and usually three-four at a time. Like I'll play Limit Hold'em/Omaha Hi-Lo/Razz, or Stud 8/Razz/Pot Limit Omaha. I like to mix it up, and I enjoy playing different variants. I would definitely recommend people giving other games a go, because most are very enjoyable.

Yay omaha.

Anything you can do, I can do almost as well as you.

Rapt with that, played fairly well and made 1 great all in call with about 12 ppl left (just out of the money).

I concur Falchoon, yay Omaha (hi/low in this case).

Top work, especially with 61 entrants.

I'm starting to hate hi/lo, probably the most fun to play though.

Played a $10 single last night and I swear the worst player won, I came third.

Played same tourney tonight

had AK diamonds

flop 2 diamonds + an 8

I check Short stack all in 900ish, 1 caller, I call.

8 diamonds on the turn, I check, other stack checks

random on river, other guy goes all in 2700 (me 2300)

I fold

Short stack shows Q high flush, other guy 10 high flush.

Would have been chip leader by 2000. You win some, you lose some.

You should have called Falchoon ;) Why would you chase but when hit, you fold?

Obviously you dont play Omaha. 2 8's on the board lead to an easy full house or possibly 4 of a kind. It happens A LOT in Omaha.

Actually I have played a fair bit and when I posted that previous post I had forgot we were talking Omaha :o

Well, the short stack has pushed on a draw, and the caller doesn't have an eight. I would have called.

Because, the all-in bet on the river doesn't make it seem like he has a boat. If he checks the turn with a full house, he would make a small bet (or value bet) on the river to try and get some action. He's moving in because he has the Ten high flush, and he wants you out the pot, not because he has a monster, and wants you to call. There's no point slowplaying, and then pushing. You either lead small on the river, or check again. If I have a full house there, I can break you by leading it, and having you come over the top with the flush - which I know you have. You ALWAYS play full houses slow in Omaha, because it's very likely that someone else has a big hand that you can break them with.

Now, some people will move all-in because they know you will call... but most won't, because they know good players will be scared of the paired board in Omaha, like you were. But, again, it comes down to knowing your player. I would have called, though.

These tourneys are mad early though, so I usually play pretty conservatively without the nuts, have to shake it up a bit next time 'round
