Confirmed signings for Richmond's VFL Team
Sam Philp
Former AFL-listed player Sam Philp
has joined Richmond’s VFL team, bringing his competitive edge to the side’s 2026 line-up.
Philp was previously on Carlton’s AFL list, drafted as a first-round pick in 2019. He went on to make his AFL debut in Round 4, 2020, against Essendon.
The recruit spent last season with Port Melbourne, dominating off half-forward and using his explosiveness to provide run as an inside midfielder.
Now, a Tigerland resident, Philp is looking forward to a fresh start at the Swinburne Centre.
“I went through a bit of a process upon finishing my season at Port Melbourne, and I just felt like I needed a bit of a fresh start,” Philp told Richmond Media.
“I reached out to Alex (Davey), who I had a connection with back at the Northern Knights when I was playing in the under-18s and from there, we had a couple of meetings, and there was some mutual interest, which was great.
“I have been a long-time Richmond supporter growing up, so it was a moment I was pretty happy to have.”

Leo Connolly, Richmond
Connolly has returned to Victoria after spending last season with Aspley Hornets. The midfielder played seven AFL games across four seasons at St Kilda and had a stint with Casey Demons in 2024.Olli Hotton, Richmond
The former Saint has joined his younger brother Taj at Punt Rd after spending 2025 at North Melbourne VFL and Old Haileybury in the VAFA. His performances in the amateurs were exceptional and gained him a game in the representative match.Chris Scerri, Richmond
For a while there it seemed every state league club in the country wanted to talk to Scerri after Preston was stripped of its VFL licence. Did he want to attach himself to an AFL club? Did he want to play for a so-called stand-alone? Or did he want to go to Tasmania? Scerri had some decisions to make but in the end he opted to go Richmond, whose VFL program has produced a string of AFL players in the past few seasons. Scerri rose spectacularly in 2025, coming out of the Strathmore Under 18s to play every game with the Bullants and win their best first-year player award.Sam Philp
