Seriously looking into getting one of these, just wondering who offers them and the best deal I can get, anything I should be wary of etc. also if anyone else has one and could offer advice it'd be much appreciated. :thumbsu:
Go with BoPo that way you load the money on when you want to use them.
I have got one and it is great. I went and loaded some money on mine today.

Hey mate I've got one with ANZ. It's a pretty standard account $5 or $6 monthly account fee. No other transaction fees I think unless you use other banks ATM's.

I know St. George offers them too, but not sure if they are Aus wide.

I remember when I looked into it that not alot of the banks offer them.

But they are a good choice I reakon, you get all the benefits of a credit card but you don't have repayments, interest rates, etc. Good for shopping on the net.

Cheers

Why would you get a card with a monthly fee when you could get a credit card for nothing? The ONLY reason I could comprehend is if you happened to be someone with a significant lack of financial discipline.

Exactly, and that's why they are perfect for younger people, Uni students in particular, who are charged no fees!

Plus, money charged on credits accrue interest, debit cards do not. The interest on a credit card, depending on the amount spent, may very well end up being more than $5-6 per month. I have a debit card with westpac, and all though I don't use it all that often, when I want to buy something off ebay it comes in handy!

This is probably not suitable for students, but I have a Gold Visa card with Westpac - 55 day interest free period (which is more like a month - be careful as it is dependent on what point in the billing cycle you make purchases) and the annual fee of about $90 is waived if you spend at least 12k a year on the card... as I pay for almost everything on my credit card this is not an issue.

End result is I have a visa card with 30-55 days interest free on purchases, no interest (as I pay off in time) and no fees. I actually have a Mastercard debit card attached to my savings account as well that I don't pay fees on... handy as a backup card.

Basically only have mine to buy tickets etc online. I hate the idea of buying something with credit. Why spend money if you dont have it? It doesnt teach people how to save.

BTW, mine is with Savings and Loans C.U.
