All year i have been baffled by some of his coaching moves plus selections, a pure example from last niight was leaving raines on riewoltd and not playen polak who was picked up to be a chb to play there. also the lack of another tall forward was stuipid.

But the selections what was with hughes getting dropped, all year there has been odd moves, bringing jack in for one game hardly got game time then dropped, drop schulz for 1 game where coburg had the bye so he didnt play any footy then bring him straight back only to once again drop him, hughes was going well then got dropped for no apparent reason then came back in and now dropped again. Young edwards was dropped last week a late omission only to be brought back in this week again why was he dropped in the first place.

And as for next week a change i hope to see is that one of the tall forwards riewoltd or hughes come in

Wallace was outclassed by lyons who had all the answers. delidio was tagged out of the game and wallace didnt make any move to shake the tag. poor raines was hung to dry against riewoldt and he refused to make a change at the back. polak was give the run around by gilbert and taken out of the contest similar to the freo game, but wallace failed to wake up to it all the game.

Agree with the Raines and Riewoltd part. Thought it was disapointing he was left on him for such a long period of time when Polak should have gone to him. I didn't mind Thursfield on Gehrig though, I thought he did pretty well against a man twice the size of him.

Deledio should have been moved in the second quarter to shake the tag. Attard was all over him and Deledio had virtually no affect on the game whatsoever. At one stage I thought he was injured. Although saying this Deledio really needs to learn to shake the tag himself.

Anyways at least the Wallabies won last night. :thumbsu:

There is ONE very good reason for Wallace's coaching decisions...it is KREUZER!

Expect more for the rest of this season. Keeping Raines on Riewoldt to 'see' what would happen and see if he could hold a player who towers over him. Thursty is being groomed as FB it seems.

Leaving Lids on the ball with his tight tag so he can learn to shake them. (as you pointed out yourself).

Jack and Hughes will get some more games, but we also need to find out if Howat, White, and Hyde are going to be kept next year. The latter 2 maybe in some trouble after last night!

The only reasons I can see for not playing Polak on Riewoldt was either he does not have the capacity to go with a Riewoldt type (covers heaps of ground) or Wallace wanted Polak floating so that he could get to other contests, remembering that Gehrig was always going to out muscle Will.

As I said in another thread though we wont progress until Polak takes the CHB position and makes it his own, hopefully another big pre season into Polak will see him able to do such a job.

Other than that I think Wallace is also teaching the young kids that potential and youth do not gurantee you a jumper at Richmond. You must earn your spot and once you have it continue to earn it. Too often in the past jumpers were handed out like free samples, anyone passing by was a chance at getting one. Now Wallace is showing that the kids need to be consistent performers week after week before they can expect to be given the honour of wearing the jumper.

Jack, Cleve, Meyer, Schulz, JON and others have shown they have potential but unless they are going to perform week after week and demand they be kept in the side then we are never going to progress as a club. When their form warrants it you bring them in, if they drop off in their efforts once there then send them back and make them work harder again to regain that position.

the raines - reiwoldt thing was very odd - blind freddy could tell you how it was going to end. why didnt he move Will there? he had done a great job on his before - why not again?

was happy with the performance last night - think we certainly had the better of them, i said to my girlfriend during the 2nd quarter that we are playing all over them but aren't punishing them enough. that st.kilda will play 15minutes of good footy, kick 5 and we will lose by three - pretty much exactly what happened - it was very predictable, even early on.

we just have to keep in putting in good performance's like that and hope we can develop the likes of edwards, tambling, deledio etc can becoming game breakers and winners - last nights performance was on the right track - just needs to become a little more potent and effecient

some people are very dumb and need stuff spelt out to them!

The problem we have is that the guys next in line for games are forwards but our forward line has been functioning pretty well the last couple of weeks. What last nights game showed is that we need another couple of elite midfielders plus some tall key backmen. Another ruckman would be handy as well.

You've hit the nail on the head, ptt. It was pretty obvious that Raines and Thursfield were struggling once the Saints got a bit of a run-on. I think the obvious moves would have been to move Thursfield on to Reiwoldt and Polak or Bowden on to Gehrig. But Wallace made it clear last night that the number one goal for the rest of the season will be to develop these players.

Raines has had games on taller players for a couple of weeks in row now, so I'd be interested to know what Plough has in mind there.

If we are trying to develop Polak then why is he playing as a loose man in defence? That is not teaching him anything useful and will get him used to non contest footy.

I agree with you there Wally. If he's going to be a long term gain he needs to take one of the key forwards.

PLSCFIGJAM

you bet i am!

i had no problem with the matchups, thursty if he ever is going to be a fullback needs to start playing on the big blokes and raines did a nice job on tarrant a few weeks back and i think terry wants to know if he can do a campbell brown type role if need be

that was the plan, although he was fairly quiet last night

You are soooooo right the season is stuffed lets be compettive without winning, if the dees had got up friday nite it would have been different.

but no use in busting a gut, we showed we can play and he kids are the future

The only Wallace decision I really didn't' like this year was just before half-time in the Geelong game we were 100 points down and he put the flood on. (and Geelong still kicked more goals).

i agree, wallace has been disgraceful this season and made to look like a fool. he should be put on notice next season and if he fails to make the finals be given his marching orders. his 5 year contract is up and it would be time to move on and get a cheaper coach.

The St Kilda game should be a beacon to you all. Wallace knows what is going on. Many of you won't realise it for another 2 or 3 seasons;)
