I've watched Martins season extremely closely and yes I don't expect this to be a common thought , however he has been very lazy on occasions and some last half glimpses of brilliance has on occasions masked some poor 1st half efforts .
He has changed roles significantly but I almost spew sometimes when I see players waltz past him especially when you see him treat others like a rag doll when he has the Footy !

Spot on PTF. That really shits me too.
Again though I guess its typical really at his age that he has a fierce desire when he has the ball, and not when doesn't.
AT least it's only an attitude thing to turn around as he has all the rest.Just want to get the ball or stop your opponent when he has it Dustin as badly as you want to be a superstar when you get it!!

The problem with our midfield is that they are not near fit enough.

Martin and Cotchin only have the aerobic capaicty of HFF's at this point. I realise there are reasons for both (2nd season and previous lack of preseasons) BUT neither is blessed with a massive natural engine, and the lack of serious AFL conditioning is telling.

Deledio isnt a pure midfielder because he isnt willing to gut run - full stop.

Foley lacks the body strength, and whilst he used to get away with it thanks to that extra burst of pace, that hasnt quite returned and its telling.

Conca isnt AFL ready yet.

That's it. Who else is left?

Nahas, too small. Hislop, Farmer, too slow. Newman no tank. Grigg, no tank. I could go on and on.

The only 2 blokes we have that physically have AFL midfielder bodies are Jackson and White, and both of these blokes are very limited footballers for other reasons - lack of skills, awareness, dumb footy etc.

Until our top liners get AFL midfield bodies AND until we can top those up with at least 2 more GOOD AFL ready midfielders, we aren't going anywhere.

Would be looking at Ben Cousins as midfield coach at seasons end. Teach the kids to gut run, block, shepherd and tackle properly. If the midfield arent on their game, the backs get smashed and the forwards get no help. This is not laying everything at the feet of the mids, we all know what else is required in terms of KPD, Ruck and Forward help.

We are a couple of preseasons and probably one more class midfielder from being a consistently strong midfield unit IMO. Toughness and endurance will come with training and experience (especially if you look at the type of players we have in Cotchin and Martin). That said, would love a Dangerfield type. They are going to have play Tuck/White etc for cover/depth purposes in the meantime.
