Players to Watch:

Cameron Cloke - The Big man has had a great pre season with the Blues. His 2nd season on the list, and the ruckmen, has been picked for the Round 1 side, beating Cain Ackland and Dylan McLaren to take the number 1 ruck position. Cloke who turns 24 at the end of the season will be looking to stamp his athoratey in the middle of the ground, and give his midfielders the 1st look at the football.

Jarrad Waite - The 194cm big man, has played forward most of his career, new coach Brett Ratten has improved his development in the defence area. Waite, known for his high flying and marking, will play as a main defender this year, as Carlton are low with tall defenders. This will be the break or make year for Jarrad Waite, who needs to step up each and every week to keep the opossition from scoring goals.

Round One: Carlton vs Richmond MCG

Brett Ratten, as his first outing as Senior Coach of the Carlton Football Club, he experienced a painful loss, to the Richmond Tigers in front of a good crowd worth 30 thousand fans at the MCG on Sunday. The Tigers were all class over the helpless Blues who look to be going to have another struggling Season.
A 58 point win to the Tigers was a good way to start the season for them, but a 10 goal loss for the Blues, was something they, and new coach Ratten wasn't looking for.

Only 2 goals were scored in the 1st half for Carlton, they just couldn't get the ball in the forward line. Richmond's defence was on top all afternoon. All the talk about, Fevola, Whitnall combination of the summer, didn't show the quality they have today. Between them they kicked 5 goals, but they just didn't dominate the game, like we know Fev and Red can do.
Fevola finished the day with 3 goals, and Whitnall kicked 2. The good story of the day was Brad Fisher. Who played on the half dforward flank, kicked 2 goals and had 21 possesions, was easily his best game for the Blues, and will be looking to continue his form into the season.

Simon Wiggins was good across Half Back. He played on Nathan Brown, and did a reasonable job. Wiggins had 24 possesions, the highest for his team. Bret Thornton who played on the dangerous Richardson was also good. Had 21 possesions, but did alow the big forward from Tigerland to sneak home 3 goals, but wasn't a dominant peformance from the big man.

Bryce Gibbs was good in his first game for the Blues, the number 1 draft pick, had 11 possesions and took 2 marks.

Round Two: Geelong vs Carlton @ Telstra Dome

What a entertaining match. Only 2 points seperated Geelong and Carlton on the weekend in their clash at the Dome. Under the roof, Saturday night football, and infront of a dissapointing crowd of just over 28 thousand, saw the best match of 2007 so far. Carlton started on fire, kicking 7 goals in the 1st quarter. Brendan Fevola started on fire, kicking 4 of the opening 7 goals of the term for the Blues. Matthew Scarlett couldn't hold the full forward at bay, as he just continued to dominate.
The move came, and Scarlett was moved off the Fev, and the Cats started to get their act together in the 2nd term.

5 Goals to the Cats saw them lead at Half time, in a great comeback. The Blues only kicked 3 behinds for the quarter, and coach Brett Ratten was less then impressed. The 3rd term was much more entertaining and free flowing. 5 Goals to the Blues and only 2 to the Cats, saw a even contest at 3 quarter time, the scores were level, 77 a piece heading into the last term. Geelong had the better of the term, kicking 5.4.. while the Blues added 4.2, but that wasn't enough, as the Cats ran away 2 point winners in the end. A exciting end, to a exciting match.

Brendan Fevola after kicking 4 goals in the 1st quarter, only added another 2 for the match and finished with 6. Josh Kennedy kicked 3, while the big Red (Lance Whitnall) booted 2 for the Blues. Andrew Walker was best a field for the Bues, only playing 66 minutes of a possible 80 minutes, and still gathered a high 29 disposals, he also started the game on the interchange. Shaun Grigg was also good in his 2nd official match, having 23 disposals

Blues win a thriller

The Blues have won their 1st match of the 2007 Season. The third match of the year for the Blues, they just snuck home against a talented Bombers outfit, as the Blues just got over the line by 7 points.

The Blues, led by Brendan Fevola who kicked 6 goals from the Forward line, was infront for most of the night. Down by 4 points in the 1st quarter, Jarrad Waite, who played on Matthew Llyod, had 9 possesions in the 1st quarter, he was dominant off the full back/half back line. Nick Stevens was in good form, he also had 10 posessions in the 1st quarter and finished the match with 38 possesions from the midfield. Heath Scotland was great also. 33 possesions of the half back flank, he dominated his opponent and is looking to be in good form this season.
