We don't need anymore soft receivers.
We don't need anymore 'ball-magnets' like Carrazzo
We need hard nuts; who will tackle, shepherd, screen, and fight for our beloved Judd; our glorious champion captain.
We lack that Stenglein, A.Selwood, Ling hard type who will sacrifice their body, game, and lives for their main man.

Get this bloke. Get him now. :thumbsu:

Agreed. Of all the dissaffected players who might be trade targets, we should have Adam Selwood at the top of our list. A genuine defensive midfielder who can provide blocks for Juddy in close.

Isnt that the exact role that hadley will play when he is finally Fit again??

Sounds like D Kerr

;)

Our midfield needs to be a lot more physical and better defensively.

There's a million things Judd is, but great on defence isn't one of them. We know Stevo is butter soft, and Gibbsy and Murph are young. Some mature bodies and mongrel in there would be great.

Wiggo came off the square & tried to clean up Rawlings, unfortunately Rawlings is tough & just got up as if nothing happened.

He's the only Carlton player I have seen try & do stuff to protect Judd.

Kerr, McKinley, Hansen, Embley now Selwood.
Boys cant you just stop, at this rate WC wont have any players and they will have to rename Carlton West Coast.

Yeah i was reading in the paper when judd first come over and Stenglein was sating how he should of taken half of Judd's votes since he was the one always getting hurt and getting knocker over. This is where J.B can come into play. but is he good enough to block and get his own ball? thats the thing we have to ask. It could be between Hadley and J.B!

We certainly need to block for Judd, the poor guy pretty much has fight out of the packs all on his own. It's amazing how well he actually does really. Such core strength.

So whilst we need to block for Judd, really our whole team needs to learn to block for each other. It just seems to me that alot of our players are trying to be heros individually and take everyone on, which is great but the other players not in possession need to do the team thing for the person with the ball.

Interestingly though, our wins we have gotten from great comebacks were from patches of play where everyone really does play for one another. The last qtr against Port (the first game) is a good example, just watch how Grigg and others dive into the ball, multiple players at each contest, just everyone seems to gel better.

We're certainly capable of it, just need time and to develop the young bodies.

More on the topic though, I'd agree Hadley would be great to block for Juddy but who knows when he's gonna get on the park and even then for how long. We don't really have too many options ATM I guess, but at least if everyone gave more of an effort to support and block for CJ we'd be better off.

Perhaps we could recruit Tyson Slenglein, and get him to block for Judd, just like he did at West Coast. :thumbsu:

:D You evil bastards, is there no end to your evil ways? :D

In all seriousness, he has only there been for just a season. I would think that next year, you will see more blocking for him. And anyway, isn't Judd's role different to what his role was at Eagles? In a year's time, there could be more emphasis on blocking for Murphy and Gibbs.

Vastly different. His cheif job is to get contested ball and feed it, unlike at West Coast where he could go run around and get others to help him. Many people think he's past it - not true, he just doesn't have the opportunity to run free like he used to. Vintage CJ will return next year once everyone knows how to help him out.

Blocking for Judd at WCE wsa great when Cox hit it into spcae, and from the bounce/throw in, guys were setup to block and open up the way.

We have to react to the oppositions rucks hitout most times. Makes it almost impossible to setup and block effectively for Judd.

That said, IF our rucks do start to dominate in the coming years then Hadley, Armfield and Banno could do tis sort of work........Russ as well.

Good call BB, i would also like to see us block for some others as well like Murphy, Gibbs and Fevola when he has 2 or 3 blokes in his way.

Another thought might be to block for Stevens and hope he then learns how to do it for someone else.

West Coast blocked for Judd because they had Cox. We don't have a dominant ruckman (yet). Blocking doesn't work if you arent directing the ball in the ruck. Remember if a player is blocking he is leaving his opponent, it's risky if you aren't winning the hitouts.
