All the usual end of season talk about who should be delisted, traded etc and after reading the opinion threads on Farmer, White and Jackson I thought that maybe our focus is wrong. Those guys have become our second string, our fall back positions our fill ins. What is going to be a huge challenge in 2012 is where the hell are we going to find room for Conca, Batchelor, Newman, Helbig, Moore, Astbury, Grimes and maybe Griifiths and Connors in the side as it stands. Add 2 decent draft picks and its a huge dilema, in fact potentially 11 players looking for a spot. Apart from the obvious deficiency in the ruck can we fit these guys in and what will the side look like? Certainly huge improvement in depth of nothing else.

Grimes for thursfield ,Griff or Astbury in for Miller,Moore is prob done and was overated anyhow there the obvious ones but it will b good that there will b pressure for spots.

Conca and Helbig should hopefully fill out into good midfielders. Astbury/Grimes into defenders, Griffiths into our forward and Batch into a long term back flanker. Newman is obviously best 22 and i think Moore could be done. We are 2 drafts away from really cleaning the list out properly. But this list of INs to be included is the number 1 reason i would trade pick 14 and sweetener for Z.Clarke. Use the 2nd round on the best mid to add depth. Morris comes in the 3rd round as a defender. Then get some more mids afterwards.

HB: Newman Astbury Batchelor
C: Deledio Martin Houli
HF: Nahas Riewoldt Helbig
F: Griffiths Vickery King
R: Z.Clarke Cotchin Foley
INT: Conca Grigg Tuck

Next year we can add some 3 more good players from the draft and a free agent or 2 due to salary cap space.

Griffiths in for Miller if Griff can have a big pre-season

Astbury in for Post??

Then the obvious ones, Newman for Farmer, King for White, Batchelor for Dea, Grimes for Thursfield, Conca for Webberly. Hope we can get Morris to release Deledio into the midfield so Lids can replace Grigg/Jackson

Gee if we could only get a ruckman then who knows where these kids plus Novembers draft will take us next year and beyond?

My thoughts exactly good fellow! hahaaa Seriously though apart from ruckman we seem to have multiple options all over the ground even without new additions. Getting a bit bloody scary, as you say this is untrodden ground for us.

I understand why Jackson is maligned, BUT just to play devil's advocate, we do need somone to shut down the oppositions best midfielder - a tagger. Whilst it's great to say Deledio or Conca into the middle to replace Jackson, is either tight enough defensively? I know both have played in defence, but more as a free, rebounding type defender. Just not sure either is a ready made lock down, tagging midfielder to replace Jackson.
