"After South Melbourne reports their 5th consecutive $150k dollar loss in 1980, a push for a move to Sydney was looking more likely with each passing day. When the VFL rescinded such a proposition, the South board reached out to their supporters and over the next 2 years, they banded together to contribute to the greatest footy charity campaign and kept the Bloods down south. With some recent success in crowd numbers for exhibition games in Sydney, the urge to put NSW on the footy map was stronger than ever. And thus, the Sydney Mariners were born and entered the VFL in 1982. The name Mariners was chosen to honour the maritime origins of New South Wales. The use of light blue linking to their traditional state colours and the sea, Red from the Badge of NSW and navy to complement the colour scheme. The star comes from the Badge of NSW and to avoid confusion with Fitzroy, the usual 'Lion in the south' that sits in the middle of the badge was replaced by a navy 8-point star which is featured on the jumper"

"It was the year 1980 and the South Melbourne football club was struggling, and the AFL was keen to move a team into rugby territory, with good incentives the swans were keen for this idea but the fans wouldn't have it so they started the take flight campaign raising enough money for the swans to stay in Melbourne, with money not being an issue anymore the swans found more ways to increase income becoming one of the richest clubs in the AFL despite this they still struggled to find much success with players like tony lockett and others having their time at the club, this boosted the swans to premiership contention but they weren't strong enough to beat the roos it wouldn't be until 2022 until a premiership flag was raised in the south"
"The AFL still wanted a team in Sydney, so they made it happen in 1982 by berthing the Sydney Kookaburras with the double blue and traditional chevrons used by the state, at first the Burras struggled to gain interest and support, but with strong funding, they managed to lure stars such as Lance Franklin, Dustin martin and and many more to NSW and by the year 2019 the burras won their first premiership and now own Sydney being its biggest sporting team and over taking rugby in the state"

"The year is 1981. Paramatta has won the 1981 NSW Rugby League championship.
The VFL is looking to expand into NSW. A taskforce is created for the proposal to enter a team in Sydney.
With the success of the Eels and growing popularity, the taskforce wanted to attract rugby fans across to ensure attendance to the games.
To do this, they decided they might attract rugby fans attention by adopting the popular Eels jersey design and colours. To further capture the attention of NSW fans and identity, they also decided the harbour bridge would form part of the design in the traditional sky blue. Accordingly, the above design was adopted. (In this world West Coast don't exist)"

"In 1982 the VFL invited investors to create an expansion team based in NSW, Sydney in Particular. One portfolio backed by the NSW State Government, the Waverly Municipality Council, and NSWRL was chosen, and thus the Sydney VFL team was born. Known by a nickname previously used by St Kilda, the Seagulls were an obvious choice for a team that played just minutes away from the picturesque Bondi Beach. The Gulls played their inaugural season in 1984 wearing a Guernsey that utilized NSW Blue, White, and Yellow to symbolise the spectacular beaches in Sydney's eastern suburbs, the Seagulls were heavily endorsed by NSW beer brand, and NSWRL sponsor, Tooheys. The team ran out in round 1 1984 in front of 8,000 eager fans and got belted by Hawthorn (57pts). It wasn't until round 7 that the East Sydney Seagulls (a name that was later changed to include all Sydneysiders) beat Geelong by 7 points, did Sydney experience a VFL win."
