We are only half way through this season of football. It is still going, but maybe one case away from the end.
The AFL have been lucky that there are states that are Covid "FREE".
The Victorian supporters are not seeing their teams in Melbourne, and being able to watch live football.
It must be killing AFL followers that they can not watch their teams week in week out.
The situation that the AFL have right now is what we will see for the remainder of 2020.Hubs in different states.Reduced game time,Clubs moving from state to state.Changes to fixtures at the drop of a hat.Short breaks between games for some sides.
But no football in Melbourne. That is a long long way off happening.
The rest of Australia have the chance to see some live football.WA is the luckiest out of all the states, allowing 30,000 to games.Maybe, shortly, it will creep out to 60,000.Or maybe if the Challenge to our borders is won by Palmer, we won't be able to see any football at all, other than on TV.
But maybe the football world had better get used to what we have in 2020.Maybe the "Home of AFL" Melbourne, will not have football again in 2021.
I know that the 2021 season is a long way off, but so is the slow down of the virus in Victoria.
What happens to the ten teams out of Victoria next season if the virus is not controlled.Where will they play. Will players be prepared to spend another 6 months away from family and friends.
Are we beginning to see the demise of the AFL?Can it , will it , survive without the Victorian clubs?
If the Victorian clubs, or some of them pull the pin, what happens to player contracts. What happens to the Grand Final contract that was under handedley done with the MCC.
If we think this season has been hard, let us just wait and see what next season brings.
Will the AFL continue if the Victorian based clubs, can not take part in the competition.
As interesting and as unpredictable as 2020 has been, just how much worse will 2021 be.
Interesting times ahead.
Maybe it will not be all doom and gloom as I may think, but maybe it will be.
Melbourne not the Mecca of the AFL!!!!!!!!
Food for thought.
