PS2 because it has a better range of sports games including Pro Evolution Soccer 2 and Cricket 2002 which are 2 of my favourites.

I've heard a few things about that as well. I have no idea if it's just a rumor or real but we all hope it's coming and coming soon :D

PS2 has the better range of games, but as time progresses it will struggle to keep up with the XBox in technical performance terms, and before long the XBox game range will no longer be an issue.

The Gamecube is a non-starter. Already being discounted below the price of the other two, and soon to join the Dreamcast on the scrapheap I feel...not quite sure why. Nintendo being too picky and fussy about developers and content is one theory I have heard.

"Non starter" are you on hard drugs!?!?!?!?!?!?

And don't you dare hang sh|t on the DC you ignorant person you....

Scrapheap!?!?!? You're asking for a beating. Just like that knobhead in the Hun the other day who stated that "nobody wants to end up with an obsolete lemon. Just ask anybody who bought a Sega Dreamcast."

What the ****!?!? Yeah, just ask anybody who happened to be lucky enough to be able to ignore the Sony hype crap and buy the greatest console with the the greatest games of all time.

Dreamcast owners who stuck through it don't know anything about Lemons. That exclusive group is reserved for those who feel the need to label great things such as the Dreamcast "lemons" in public newspaper. With that statement, that Hun w*nker is basically proving that he knows f*ck all about anything related to videogames. I'm p*ssed and in a bad mood, bear with me people. ....

I guess you get your info regarding the DC from moron f*ck-knob sh|teaters like that Hun computer games "expert" cum resident arse eater.

Ok, you're probably right. The Gamecube DID start slowly.

But it's starting to kick now. Gamecube catching up to Xbox in the US. And that's what matters.

The next person that says the Gamecube is a KIDDYS console is going to have to answer to me and I'll make you look like a ****ing idiot should you choose to test me.

Please though, feel free to argue the fact that the console with the most colourful and interesting games is apparently the most boring. Or worse - KIDDY.

And then you'll no doubt go and play your 82nd first person shooter for the year and claim that it's the greatest thing since the invention of prostitution..,.,.,

Before we go any further...did I actually say anything negative about the DC's technical side? No. I said it is on the scrap heap, i.e. it is a dead console, no longer being developed for and will never sell another unit in its life. If this is wrong, feel free to complain. Otherwise, take that large unsightly chip on your shoulder over the DC's demise elsewhere.

Did I say that it was a kiddy console? No. Did I say FPS was the height of gaming perfection? No, and never would either. You have some real issues from owning consoles, don't you?

My impression of the GC's viability is strictly from what I have seen where I work and figures in the media (for example here.) Now if you can show American figures that contradict the theory that the GC is running a poor third, how about you just do that instead of acting like a sad prat?

It's coming...dont you worry about that!

Ive already seen a preview on the Internet!! Look's ****ing awesome!!

Rumored to be out late 03 which is a good sign. I dont want them bringing out the same game with new levels and new things to kill a year after the original.

With the release date so far away, it shows that a lot of work is going into making the sequel even better than the original!!

Thank God someone other than me is sticking up for the Cube.

Rod, seriously, you shouldn't be basing these judgements on articles from The Australian. The mainstream press know as much about video games as my mother does about football. Besides, that article was talking mainly of Australian sales. Nintendo couldn't give a rats arse about Australia. It's unfortunate but true.

And even if Nintendo does run third in this "console war", they are still making huge profits and will stay alive. The industry has gotten so big that it can easily support three different consoles.

Besides, here are a few facts:

- The November NPD report of sales data from American retailers shows that Nintendo GameCube jumped more than three full percentage points in next generation console share...while Playstation 2 increased two percentage points...all at the expense of Microsoft’s Xbox...which lost five points of the market.

- Unit sales of Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft’s Xbox were dead even in November (468,000 units each) – despite Microsoft giving away two free games with their hardware.

- Nintendo GameCube also showed the biggest jump in software sales, climbing more than 150% over October totals...compared to 97% for the Xbox and 48% for PS2.

- With the smash entry of Metroid Prime, Nintendo GameCube is on track to have four new titles this year eclipse one half-million unit sales, while no new Xbox title has yet to reach that mark Both Metroid Prime for GCN (#2) and Metroid Fusion for GBA (#10) appeared among the top ten sellers for all game sales in November.

- With sell through of 1.3 million units, Game Boy Advance was as popular in November as Playstation 2. Game Boy represents 33% of the total hardware market. Nintendo held 46% of the total hardware share for the month of November, an increase of 11% over October. Sony held 42% (-6%) while Microsoft held only 12% (-5%).

But, sales hype aside, the Gamecube really does have some of the most enjoyable games out there at the moment. Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Smash Brothers ect are all bloody good games. And Metroid Prime and Zelda are arriving soon.

I own an X-Box, and the only games I'm crazy about are Halo, JSRF (coming to Cube) and Splinter Cell (coming to Cube).

Seriously, I feel sorry for anyone who's missing out just because of the "kiddie" label that people put on it.

I make judgment only on the local stats - I couldn't give two hoots about any opinion that an Aussie newspaper tried to present. But I thank thee, Buzz, for providing some stats to prove that the Australian trend is contrary to elsewhere rather than accusing me of murdering small animals (or whatever it was gPhonque was on about...)

But now I ask a question...so what that it is doing well in America? Surely it is the strength of the Aussie market that will determine how available GC games will be in Australia in the future? I really wouldn't want to have to constantly resort to buying games over the Net. If there is less local demand for the GC, availability of its games will likely follow accordingly.

I don't own a gaming system but I would buy a gamecube. Its a dedicated gaming machine, has original arcade style games instead of pc ripoffs like is seen on the playstation 2 and xbox, and is cheaper. No, it doesn't play DVD's but I would rather spend a bit more and get a real DVD player that has all the functions. Gamecube for me.

Rod, while it's true that the sales figures look really bad here in Australia, it doesn't really paint the true picture. Nintendo are still making a profit on every single console they sell and every single game they sell.

Microsoft, on the other hand, are losing money with every console they sell. This has come about because of Microsoft’s desperation to get a foothold in the market and the insanely low prices they're currently offering. In fact the money that Microsoft is losing on the X-Box would send just about any other company bankrupt.

So while Nintendo is coming a distant third in Australia, they are still making money. And while that's happening, they aren't going to stop bringing their games here. Even if the do consider Australia an irrelevant little island where convicts live.

P.S. I could also have shown you the Japan sale figures for all three consoles. Let's just say there is a very bloody slaughter going on and the X-Box is on the receiving end.

:p

Sorry. Xmas party. Right amount of drinks. Home. Playing DC. Check BigFooty and find my DC is apparently on the scrapheap.

Sorry ... I wasn't really having a go at you personally...... it's just about the 5th time in a week that I've seen somebody slag off the DC. (including newspapers/mags, which sh|ts me even more)

I own every console yet I find myself playing the DC more often than not. So I guess I find it amusing when people who clearly know nothing about the DC feel the need to criticize it. (again, this is not directed at you in particular.)

As for Nintendo, well they are really the last hope for gamers like myself who prefer addictive colourful old-school style gameplay over bland overhyped unoriginal poop.

On a slightly different note, but still very much related, I was reading a "Top 50 Games Of All Time" list the other day (perhaps on Gamespot, I can't remember...) and I'd say that 30 of their top games were first person shooters. Pretty sad really considering it's about as original a concept for a game these days as singing the word "baby" in a pop song is.

And that's where I see the Xbox heading.

People seem only to care about how REALISTIC a game is these days and not about how FUN it is.

Give me Super Monkey Ball over Halo any day of the week.

I agree with that, I still pick up and play Super Monkey Ball every now and then with a few friends. Haven't picked up Halo since I've finished it.

Gamecube.

Has quality games, has some big franchise series, i have grown up with it and know its realiable for producing good games. I love the way the controller is set out as well.

If i could change one thing i would make Pro Evolution Soccer and Metal Gear Solid 2 be released on the cube. other than that, I'm happy with the cube and recommend people buy it. Espically if you have enjoyed previous nintendo consoles.

PCs are the best gaming system. The graphics ain't as good as the consoles, but for gameplay computers **** on the rest. Computers are about 10yrs ahead of consoles when it comes to features. With computers you can -

1. Play over the net.
2. Play against more than 4 players!
3. Use voice comms.
4. Play music when playing games.
5. Get game mods.
Etc, etc, etc...

All consoles are toys. Computers are real machines!

Graphically a modern PC kicks the rump of any console, mainly because monitors are able to generate far higher resolutions than standard TVs. HDTV will mean improvements in the future, but in the present your standard TV usually produces 640x480. In comparison, the standard PC gaming resolution is 1024x768, and this can be raised on high-end PCs to even double that.
