I was just reading the which opposition player would look good in navy blue and one of the posters had a list of old Carlton players.

So I started thinking, would these guys get a run on the park at the blues these days?

John Nichols
Bruce Doull
Alex Jesaulenko
Serge Silvagni
Adrian Gallagher
Geoff Southby

Who else from the golden age of the blues (70's to early 80's) would get a run today?

LOL are you kidding mate?
I'd be happy if Warnock was a 1/4 of the player nicholls ever was.
Jesalenko and Fevola in the same forward line
Dou'll playing as a much tougher and talented version of Campbell Brown!
I'm gonna stop there..

Big Nick was 6'2 he would struggle in todays game as a ruckman, in saying that if he played today his body shape would be different and he could still have that hardness that has made him a navy blues legend. All the others I think they would still stack up.
Others
David Macay
Mark Maclure
Jimmy Buckley
I'll stop there as I think other posters will find lots of there own old favs to put up.

If Warnock is half as good as Harry Madden then I would be happy... but considering that Harry was about half as good as Big Nick it'd be a goodun :D

what about players from 95 like sos ans sticks?

Nope... we are talking the old champions from when they played for the love of the club, the game and probably a match fee of about $1000 and after it was over went back to work on Mondays.

for sure, all good athletes with great skills. The others might be too slow or too short for their best suited positions.

dont get me wrong not taking anything away from these guys, but if your going back to the and 70's i couldn't see any of the guys getting a go, think about how more skilled, tactical, athletic the game is now to back then, i couldn't see the carlton 1987 team beating our todays bullants

You are obviously very young...

All of these guys had that something special about them that would allow them to succeed in any era of the game.

What a shame our local boy Firrito didn't end up at the Blues . Simmo is local though but he played for the wrong club.

I don't think you give the '87 Premiers enough credit .

probably younger then you and not taking it away from any of these guys, but ive seen games from back then, yes the passion and toughness was there, but honestly compared to today the skills game plan fitness is no where near it.

i give them planty of credit, just dont think footy back then was any where near as professional and skilled as it is today.

Definately wasn't as professional as today . I don't think the skills are any better in this era though , although I agree the game strategies have lifted a notch or 2 and there is a lot more intensity in todays game .

seeing old games from back then, cause yes 87 was two years before my birth, the guys that were skilled did stand out, but i don't think there anywhere near today's player. like kicking off left and right, shurugging tackles and clearing the ball, some of the goal's that are kicked. the speed of the game. how'd you know about firito and simmo as well?

The game is definately better,
you only have to look at the grounds they play on nowadays,
the tactics used and the players fitness.

But you have to remember back then senior lists had 55 players,
and there was an under 19 list, so there was still a huge percentage of players that didn't make it.

Would have been 1-2 champions, 12 decent,
5 or 6 average in most 18s, back then.

Todays top sides would have 4, 10 and 4.

The best are still the best so it really hasn't changed that much.
