Do games from America work on X Boxes sold in Australia ?
Can you play DVDs from America on X Boxes sold in Australia ?

No and no.

There is talk already though of a couple of mod chips that will enable you to play any region games. (not sure if it's dvd as well, although i'm fairly sure there's an Action Replay plugin/disc that will enable any dvd region anyway.)

Also, a guy in England has apparently devised a way of playing any region games using a software-only mod. (ie. no soldering 32 wires and voiding your warranty...)

Microsoft are doing their best to stop all of these of course.....

I hope the mod chips do come out as it will annoy me if XBox only sell NBA2K2, K3, and onwards in the states?? Yet they bring out second rate BBall games like Inside Drive in Australia?

It is allready out! I live in BrisVegas and I have a chip installed in my XBOX!!!
I pay no more than $5 for each game.

You guys are slow and behind the times when it comes too consoles!
