President's AGM Report

The League continues to grow with us being well received within country football / netball as a whole. We continue to go from strength

to strength as our competition has expanded greatly over the past few seasons with the continued development of our football and

netball. This expansion will allow us, to develop and grow the leagues financial status; strengthen our balance sheet and

most of all our profit. It is vital for us as a league to remain financially viable, which will enable us to support the existing clubs, their townships and communities.

It has been our commitment and aim to reward those clubs who support our League with purchases of goods through our valued
sponsors and supporters. Again this season we will issue those clubs with a dividend of $ 10,000-00, which brings our total dividends back to our clubs of around $ 175,000-00 to date.

Season 2008 has been a positive one, with some new teams winning premierships in both our football and netball competitions. I am

extremely proud of the efforts of the many hundreds of volunteers who give up their own time to ensure our sports expand and continue to be an integral part of each community. I wish to express my personal thanks to each of our Board Members, Deputy President Shane Smith, Directors Leo Groenewegen, Bill Heppell, Graeme Tuplin, Ronnie Jones and Frank Moss. These people have supported me and our office staff and continue to work hard to better our League. I thank each of these gentlemen for their support, commitment and friendship they have given me over the past 10 seasons. I have chosen to step down from my role as President at the conclusion of this season. I have enjoyed the past 10 seasons, with the last 8 as President, it is something Im truly proud of and honoured

to have served our League in this important position. I trust that each year I have been involved we have continued to get stronger and gained a healthier financial position year in year out.

This season we made a couple of staffing changes with a new CEO in Steve Walter, Judy Orren Manager Football & Netball Operations and Stacey Cooper as Sales & Administration Coordinator. The League staff has supported me greatly, with their continued development and commitment to better our competitions. I thank each of our staff members for the strong support they have given me and the board.

Interleague this season saw us play our old friends in the combined side of North Central and Mallee Leagues. The under 18s side was coached by Brett Mullet Fisher and he was assisted by Steve Goodie, Greg Titch Rowe and Simon Rourke, the side performed extremely well, with a fantastic result in defeating North Central Mallee on their home turf. Thanks to these guys for supporting our League and the under 18 concept, your efforts are greatly appreciated. Our senior players have continued to develop with a core group of players coming up through the ranks over the past 5 years and we are starting to see the benefits. Although the seniors lost in the dyeing moments of the game, their commitment and efforts this season were fantastic. The interleague concept is something close to my heart and I hope for many years to come we push our junior and senior sides to better themselves and compete at this high level of competition. Thank you to Board Members Shane Smith & Leo Groenewegen, our Chief Executive Officer Stephen Walter and our Senior Coach Mark Beaker Sandilands, Chairman of Selectors Jim Martin and Runner Adrian Keitley your hard work is very much appreciated. Our netballers had a successful carnival, with a fantastic win over North Central Mallee and they have continued their development with a great win this season. Many thanks for the efforts of the coaches Kate Upton and assistant Jade Hottes.
As special thanks is again extended to all of our clubs and players in both groups for their support with the interleague concept.

Thanks to our trainers yet again, for their valued efforts Karen, Naomi, Frances and Bobby. Well done during the interleague campaign

and thank you for your help, support and continued commitment you have given me and the board over the past years.

I would like to thank our Directors of Umpires, Peter Cameron and Appointments Officer Will Eastmure, for the development of the

Academies and growth of the umpiring ranks throughout the league. Thank you to all the Umpires for their efforts this season and I hope you continue to remain involved in our competition for many years to come. Special thanks are also extended to the club umpires who supported the League this season, well done to these people for helping again.

Our presentation night was a great success, with in excess of 360 plus people in attendance, representing both football and netball. The work and professionalism into our power point presentation was again nothing short of first class. A special thank you is extended to our host

Sandy Roberts, well done to all our worthy award winners. To Tony Foo, Stacey Cooper, Judy Orren, and Steve Walter for the preparation

of this night and how well the night was perceived.

To our Tribunal Members and Chair Persons Greg Black, Alex Lagerway and their members, thank you for the clear message we are trying to send to each member of our League, we hope your enjoyed season 2008 and you all will remain involved for the coming seasons.

My personal thanks are extended again to Stephen Walter in his first season as our Chief Executive Officer for his work ethic and commitment during this season. Steve has had some new and interesting challengers thrust upon him, he has gained much knowledge over the past season and he will continue to expand and develop our League to new heights in the future. Thanks Steve for the support you have given me and the other members of the board.

Thank you to all our Presidents, clubs officials, players and supporters. Thank you for your involvement in our League this year and the support you continue to give clubs within our League. I know at times we have differed in ideas, direction and opinions however, I hope the League continues to achieve worthy results for both the clubs and League alike.

This is our fourth season with local radio station 3MDR of Emerald. I would like to personally thank Tony Foo, Ed and Connor who both continued to brighten up the Saturday broadcasts. Leo Groenewegens special comments add a little extra to the broadcast each Saturday and it is good to drive around and listen to a local YVMDFL game on our local airwaves.

In season 2009, three new board members will come on board with us Jason Leeds, Jodi Chandler and Mick Hill, these three people are well respected amongst our League and they will add new ideas and value to the ongoing development of both football and netball.

Our sponsors, for again having assisted us greatly and I truly appreciate their support and hope they remain involved with our League for many seasons to come. Compass Packaging and Recruitment, thank you to Managing Director Alan Webb and his management team for the valued input and support for the past four seasons.

To our new Division Two sponsor High Mountain Spring Water, Director Charles Exton and his staff, I hope we can continue to value add to your company in the years to come also.

Our other major sponsors, Amcor Fibre Packaging, Upwey Community Bank, Trophy Town, Cadbury/Schweppes, Victor Sports, Russell Athletic, Gem Signs, G.A Black & Co, H Waterhouse and Sons,Barracuda Security, Stick Yarra Valley and Cougar Sportswear, your financial support and involvement is an important part of our local sport development program, thank you for your commitment to our League.

Those clubs who havent had netball or just one side this season have much work to expand their clubs, we are prepared to assist as much as possible, as is Netball Victoria. Lets start the work now, not when the season is upon us. Jodi Chandler will become the Director of Netball, her aim will be to develop, assist coaches, players and umpires alike. Jodi has a great grasp of netball and what is required to better the local netball needs.

One special note, I wish to thank the many great coaches and players who over the years committed to our interleague and the rebirth of interleague which has helped our League immensely, and help develop our youth and players. These people I wish to thank personally for their valued support to me:- Damian Monkhorst, Brett Fisher, Mark Sandilands and Steve Goodie as past coaches and assistants, thanks for your support and commitment to both me and the League, I greatly appreciate what you have all undertaken, with the aim to better our League and create a valued bond and friendship within the League. Now to some of our players who for many years have supported me and the interleague concept with their personal commitment and support towards our League, Vincent Dunstan, Craig Clarke, Danny Gazza Ryan, Timmy Wragg, Daniel King, Adam Bonsak, Jon Dalton,

Simon Blackney, Chrisy Haworth, Dallas Spencer, Ryan Van Hoorn, Shannon Koole, Cameron Buckland and Luke Barclay. These players

have all held leadership roles and are the first to put their hands up to promote the interleague concept, many thanks is extended to you all,

for the personal support these valued players have given me and of course, our League.

It would be extremely remiss of me not to take the time out to thank two great mates that have supported me so much during my term as

President, they are Deputy President Shane Smith and incoming President Graeme Joey Tuplin. We have a strong and valued friendship, Joey for more than 30 years now and Shane for the past 10. You have given me the inner strength and assistance to develop and progress the League, much credit I have received, is really yours and I just need to ensure, that you both understand how much Ive valued your support and friendship.

Finally to my family, Kath, Jaimi, Carli and Brooke, thank you for your continued support and understanding of how much I love our local sporting community, in particular, for my role over the past 10 years with my involvement with the YVMDFL Inc.

CEO AGM Report

No doubt an arduous season for many clubs both on & off the track. In an era of economic uncertainty, running community

organisations becomes an even bigger challenge, especially when it comes to revenue raising. It is now more opportune

than ever to think outside of the square and dare I say it, truly commit to our loyal sponsors by buying their product, using their

service or recommending their business. Our very existence relies on their generosity.so please ensure & encourage your members to support your clubs & Leagues sponsorsthey also need your help.

After one year at the helm, I have had the opportunity to see first hand the operations of our League, and there is no doubting that the business model that is in place, largely as a result of significant contributions from our Directors, especially our retiring President Tony Mitchell, has placed at strength the future of our competition and ensures our viability and capability to support clubs when they need it most. There are some power clubs in our competition that have established standards that we all should aspire to. Their prowess on the field is matched by their strength off the field with strong & committed committees and dedicated volunteers & supporters. It is incumbent upon all of us to seek out our most successful operators and leverage their best practices. I know that Hawthorn did that as they looked to Geelong to improve their capability. Dont be afraid to ask for some ideas or for help..it may be your best chance to reverse your fortunes. I know that I will be doing that when I compare our operations with other football & netball leagues.

Balance sheet strength is a core success factor and without it, clubs will always struggle. The next several weeks are key to 2009 success. I trust that all clubs are primed & have their plans almost finalised. Silvan Football Club is clearly the club that is setting the benchmark. Congratulations to all members, supporters & sponsors for an outstanding season. They deliver a quality service. Back to back flags & undefeated to boot is an outstanding effort in 2008.

Alexandra has taken all before it & is now eager to challenge the Division One teams in what promises to be Alexandras biggest test in many years. They are up to the challenge & I wish them every success.

Netball is well & truly at the fore of our competition and to that end, Mt Evelyn has set a standard that is the envy of all clubs. They are a most professional outfit and they have thrown out the challenge to all clubs to see if anyone can match them, both on & off the court.
I have enjoyed the camaraderie displayed by all clubs..a camaraderie that is unique and sets our League above all others. Believe it or not, this is the best Football & Netball League in Victoria and is a credit to all involved.

I would like to congratulate Ron Jones for his contribution to the Board as a Director, Ron steps down to assume a more prominent role with his local club. Thank you Ron for your contribution to the well being of the YVMDFL.

To all of the YVMDFL Directors, you are true community volunteers who dedicate much of your own time & money to ensure the YVMDFL continues to evolve & prosper. Many may not realise the efforts that have been expended, over many years congratulations to you all.

It would be most remiss of me not to mention our President, Mr Tony Mitchell. Having only known Tony this year, it was very clear at the outset that he is a passionate local football follower whose only focus was for the betterment of the YVMDFL. His passion for our League is without peer and Tonys contribution as President for the last 8 years has culminated in delivering a Football League business model that is the envy of many other competitions. Tony, although stepping down from the YVMDFL, will still be involved, albeit in a much higher capacity as a Director of the VCFL. I look forward to working with Tony in a different capacity and have no doubts that his business acumen & passion for local football will make a significant impact for all Victorian country football.

The YVMDFL office has been revamped with all staff new to their roles this year. Judy Orren & Stacey Cooper are keen & committed to deliver the best service they can to all of the YVMDFL football & netball clubs. We are all on a steep learning curve and will always be keen for coonstructive feedback & suggestions to improve our service.

The YVMDFL team this year assumed responsibility for the operation & administration of the DRJFL. This initiative is part of a broader VCFL strategy to streamline & centralize administration functions across country Victoria. The YVMDFL fully endorse this initiative & look forward to further centralizing processes to ensure our costs to service the football & netball communities are kept to a minimum.

I would like to congratulate Peter Cameron on his contribution to the YVMDFL, Peter is an outstanding leader and in conjunction with Will Eastmure has been instrumental in the success of our umpiring department this year.

Without sponsors, we would struggle to survive. I thank & congratulate all of our sponsors for being community minded. Your products & services are on the highest priority shopping list. A special welcome to Charles Exton & High Mountain Spring Water for their generous contribution and I look forward to promoting his business for many years to come. Mr Alan Webb & Compass; Mr Rob Dolan & Sticks; Mr Adrian Keane & AMCOR; Mr Tony Barnes & Barracuda Security; Mr Michael Philp & Cadbury Schweppes, Mr Mike Fleming & Bendigo Bank Upwey; and Mr Garry Sparke & Cyan Pressyou are all outstanding ambassadors for your companies & thank you on behalf of all clubs for your support. To our major suppliers; Mr Kevin Cooklsey - Cougar & Mr Andrew Shenker - Victor, we work well together & I look forward to continuing our partnerships for many years to come.

All in all, I have enjoyed the challenges of 2008, but importantly; look forward to 2009 with enthusiasm. Congratulations to all Presidents & committees of all clubs you are all the core ingredient to our success.I look forward to working with you all next season.

This is from a post by Graeme Putlin on the main YVMDFL forum no2 thread.

Thought it was relevant to this thread.

As the info has not been verified you may not want to take it as gospel, however it certainly has the ring of truth about it.

"Totally True I suspect the Local Guru has got hold a copy of the annual report in order to make the statement about sound financial state. But in summary the report showed income up $84,279 to $798,017 costs up $63,627 to $739,745 producing a net operating surplus of $58,272. Less other expenses of $35,592 of which $14,425 were cash rebates back to clubs resulting in a net surplus of $22,680. We have $105K in the bank Debtors of $61,455 Stock $39,923 and total assets of $229,917. Our only creditors $9003 leaving a surplus of $220,914. This is after having paid back cash to the clubs $165,237 over the past 10 years.
Hope this helps"
