Great signing. Perfect scatback 3rd down RB to be Carr's outlet.
I said this in the Redskins team thread: He was a nice change of pace back and receiving option for us. I hope he does well with the Raiders.

Murray 'seems' ideal..but would rather the money was spent elsewhere. Not sure how well he will go with our oline. Want to see a lot of 'our' Murray this season. Reckon we could make do with him and Helu, plus maybe DMac if he stays..or another cheaper back up option. Dont see the value in paying big bucks for a RB. Oline..dline...secondary. .WR....needs.

Well tomorrow at 7am Melbourne time, free agency will become officially official. The Raiders have two deals completed already (centre Rodney Hudson and LB Malcolm Smith), whilst they are still negotiating with tight ends Jermaine Gresham and Jordan Cameron. Pot Roast and Dan Williams are being considered at DT.

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Oakland Raiders have signed unrestricted free agent DT Dan Williams, the club announced Wednesday.

Williams joins Oakland following a five-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played in 70 games with 40 starts. He totaled 116 tackles (63 solo), two sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception and seven passes defensed.

Last season, the 6-foot-3, 315-pounder played in a career-high 16 games and started nine contests, setting a career high with 45 tackles as the Cardinals made the playoffs for the first time since 2009

Former Buffalo Bills tight end Lee Smith is expected to join the Oakland Raiders as a free agent, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The deal is for three years and $9 million, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan.

Smith, who is known as a blocking tight end, started 10 games last season for the Bills. He caught seven passes for 42 yards and one touchdown.

This is official. Like the blocking part.

The Raiders have secured six players so far: Kansas City Chiefs center Rodney Hudson, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith, Washington Redskins running back Roy Helu, Buffalo Bills tight end Lee Smith, Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Dan Williams and former New Orleans Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton.

None of Oakland’s pickups are older than 28. That’s smart. Last year, Oakland shopped in the geriatric department and it didn’t work. This team needs some players who will stick around, and these moves are a step in the right direction. from espn.com

Nate Allen joins up for a need at experienced CB.

These are all solid guys we have so far. No headcases or injury or weight concerns. Can add some A grade players now or thru the draft.

Still need DE tho there is talk of moving Mack there.

Nate Allen is a safety, not a corner. Will likely start at one of the safety spots this season with Brandian Ross as the third safety.

For the last decade, our image has dropped to one of a basket-case organization. Ineptitude on the field. Bad draft picks. A place where players' careers die. A place where older vet Free Agents look to cash in. Mass coaching turnover. Poor coaching.

Around the league, and nation, the perception is of that. That we're a joke, pathetic, a laughing stock.

Outside perception is two-thirds the truth.

And it's all based on perceiving our football product. Yes, we're a football team. But to regain that past perception/image/brand of the Raiders being one hated for being so good, the football product itself, the culture within, has to change.

For all Reggie's poor GM'ing, one thing that has changed is the culture within, things are improving. Players are raving about how good it is there now compared to the past. Baby steps expected to turn that newly planted seed of a new professional culture to flower.

Vikings gave up a fifth for Wallace and a seventh. Why couldn't Reggie do that. Why didn't he give up a fifth for Brandon Marshall. Dolphins gave up a third for Kenny stills who is a young gun. Why didn't Reggie get in on that. We need at least one decent free agent receiver.

There's hardly any left now and doesn't appear we're chasing one.

Michael Crabtree was the highest-ranked receiver still available, followed by Dwayne Bowe, Cecil Shorts, Kenny Britt, Hakeem Nicks, Steve Johnson and Denarius Moore

Crabtree hates us, Britt's @ the Rams.

Looks as tho we are paying him to play both positions.......................

Nate Allen Raiders deal: 4-yr, $23M, $11.8M gtd, $4M bonus, salaries $2.9M, $4.9M, $5.85M, $4.85M, 2015 base full gtd

It'll be more situational. Allen I expect will play most of his time in the box, but Woodson is very good at the LOS, so the two of them can be interchangeable, which can add to a wrinkle to give Norton to play with.

Nate Allen cannot play corner. And he can't play in the box because he isn't the greatest tackler or best with pursuit angles. He's probably best as a deep safety in a two shell type defence. Not good enough to play deep by himself.

Look for the influence now of the main coaches.

Musgrave = back-ups and practice squad players from Vikings
KNJ = back-ups and practice squad players from the Seahawks
JDR = back-ups and practice squad players from the Broncos

and of course

Reggie = back-ups and practice squad players from the Packers, Niners, Panthers, etc.

Also watch Reggie overpay, trade a ridiculous 3rd round pick for Cordarelle Patterson.

He won't trade a high draft pick for anyone. If anything, I see him going after greg jennings.
