The bloke was a total campaigner. If it were anyone else he was harassing, he would get his face caved in. Clarko did the right thing under a circumstance where there weren't a whole lot of options.

No he wouldn't, and if someone responded like that, they would probably end up in big trouble. You can't just beat the s**t out of people that annoy you.

There are drunken idiots everywhere and most reasonable humans can get by without resorting to extreme violent behavior.

As for Clarkson, his response was reasonable but borderline. There will be more public scrutiny because he is a largely unapolagetic campaigner, despite being a great coach, even if he was not in the wrong.

by walking through the hotel doors where the people on the streets can't go. It's just how celebrities deal with paparazzi. Ofcourse, they're harassing you and trying to provoke a reaction, but once you show your vulnrability and react to it, it's only going to get worse next time.

I'm not sure how the US consular works but our Police checks are Australia wide. There is no getting away from what you have done in any state of Australia mate.

The level of violent rhetoric in this thread is the reason why we see people with serious head trauma caused by violence. It reaffirms my believe that this "knock out" culture in australia is as prevalent as the attacks it promotes.
