Collingwood 2016 Pre-Season Discussion

Yeah, if memory serves me correctly he got a massive case of the yips early in his career. Couldn't kick a goal to save his life coming off one of the worst run ups I've ever seen. He has rectified that problem, so it's irrelevant now. He's not playing forward now because he has proven himself as an amazing CHB, and our defence has been sorely lacking rebound that he can provide for the better part of two years.

None of that makes him a poor forward.
The yips weren't the only reason for him moving back. He's just not a natural forward. Very poor was a bit much, but I just don't rate him permanent forward. Sure leave the option open for him to pinch hit but he's not a smart enough forward to play there permanently. He might be able to learn, but as I've said his leading patterns aren't good enough to play permanently forward. Too often he leads to spots where the midfielder must thread the eye of the needle to hit him up, which makes it very hard for the mids and especially our mids considering they're not all exactly elite kicks.

Again, happy for him to pinch hit forward at times but defence is where he must start and finish IMO.

Seniors back at training. All hands on deck now. Let's hope today marks the beginning of a clean pre-season to allow us to launch into a really strong season.

Update: @CricketAus has named its slip cordon for the Adelaide Test. There are a few surprises... #gopies

Someone really needs to explain to me the overlap of years between those first two names.

Surely a 200-gamer didn't change numbers for two years (1934 & 1935)?
Good point. Maybe they changed numbers around willy nilly back then. Or maybe numbers were allocated due to position like rugby or league

Isn't that just the years that they played for the Pies, not necessarily the years wearing that jumper number?

Dibbs predominately wore number 12, but also played under the numbers 9, 10 & 11.

Clayden predominately wore number 11, but also played under the numbers 4,6, 8 & 10.

Yes, they changed numbers frequently back then.
It's strange that they allocated locker number 10 to both of them, when they actually played more games in other numbers. Perhaps they played in Premierships wearing 10 ?

I believe you only get your name on a locker if you've played 100 games or played in a Premiership.
