What? Who cooked this idea up?

must have been floated when you were in gaol.

NRL is playing its opening round in Trumpland so the AFL is trying to stick it up them.
The funny thing is NRL games are being played in those states that same weekend. And with no games in VIC there is a Melbourne Storm game in Melbourne.

It's always interesting to see the anomalies in fixtures, such as:

Our last three home games vs Collingwood were in 2021, 2017 and 2013.

Our last three home games vs Fremantle were in 2020 (at Carrara), 2017 and 2016. We've never played them in Tassie, despite hosting home games vs Carlton, Richmond, Melbourne, Hawthorn, St Kilda and Geelong.

OUr last game at Docklands vs Geelong was in 2019.

We've only had four away games vs GWS, compared to nine home games. Three of those away games were in GWS's first three years.

Our last five games vs Port Adelaide have been home games.

The last time we played Richmond twice in a season was in 2015.

Last three away games vs Sydney were in 2022, 2018 and 2016.

And I was surprised to find out that we have had round 1 in Melbourne for the last four years.

But seven of our last nine round 1 games have been against interstate teams.

Anyway, back to work...

Hang on, so these round zero teams are playing round 1 also? How the F is this going to work? Or is everyone playing a round zero round? Why the f is there a round zero? These Fwits at aflHq have zero ****ing clue. Get Duckyeah into the HQ, be best for everyone and the kangas will be playing one game at arden st every year.

On the radio they were saying the teams that play in round 0 will get a buy in the first few rounds , so they will get two byes everyone else the one.
More unevenness, why am I not surprised
So with the extra break it’s obvious those toothless umpired different pies will travel twice to wa, sa, qld and nsw? Right? Only fair

What a stupid idea. But then again this is the normal lottery of AFL fixtures that happen all the time. The ladder will be all over the place for the first 6 weeks. How about just concentrating on having a fair fixture where everyone plays everyone else the same amout of times over say 5 years at each others home venues

Without doubt to most stupid piece of shitfuggery from the AFL in a long time. At that's quite an achievement.

Trying to solve a problem that no knew/cared existed and then failing to solve it at the same time as creating new problems.

Imbeciles.
Couldnt of described it better myself 😂. Very well said

Nigel Tufnel/AFL: What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Start with Round Zero?
Nigel Tufnel/AFL: Round Zero. Exactly. One earlier.
Marty Di Bergi: Why don't you just start with every team starting in Round One and have them play in a game every week after One?
Nigel Tufnel/AFL: [pause] We start at Zero.

A genuine boo from me as a QLD based ardent Roo with both of our QLD games being played elsewhere. So no games for us after we only got one this year.
I don't think Gather Round is technically a 'home' game for either team so we still could play Brisbane at the Gabba if we have a double up against them

24 rounds = 11 home + 11 away + 1 gather + 1 bye (ignoring those playing round "0")

These aren't anomalies - they're features.
