Re: Pies 2011 Official Trade Rumour Thread 2011 - Part II

toovey to westcoast for brown or 2nd rd pick
toovey for a 2nd rounder. Are you kidding me. This years draft is shit as

look at this top 10. **** if the draft is this weak i would barely swap a first rounder for toovey.

1. Adam Cooney (Dogs)
2. Andrew Walker (Blues)
3. Colin Sylvia (Dees)
4. Farren Ray (Dogs)
5. Brock Mclean (Dees)
6. Kepler Bradley (Dons)
7. Kane Tenance (Cats)
8. Raphael Clarke (Saints)
9. David Trotter (Roos)
10.Rylet Dunn (Freo)

The draft is a lotto nearly. Wouldnt risk a ready made player for pick 26-54

If a second round pick on the table for Tooves, take it an move on.

You win some you lose some.

Would be great to get Mitch Brown though somehow.

really? I would be spewning if we only got a 2nd rounder. I mean his a good player. id rather trade him with GWS or gold coast for a kid we liked (but missed out on) that hasnt shined and we can develop.

Really

It's getting late in the trade period, either we organize something or he walks for nothing.

It's not about what we like or what he's worth to us

It's about what it is

You are not going to get a quality kid from either GWS or GC so there goes that idea. A pre-listed player we rate may be worth a look though.

As I said, no club will put their first rounder on the table. A second round pick is likely and therefore most likely the best offer we would receive in exchange for Toovey. It's a no brainer, do not fall into the trap of the Ross Lyon ****wit syndrome, remember something is always better than nothing.

I'd take the second rounder and move on.

Re: Pies 2011 Official Trade Rumour Thread 2011 - Part II

Can't we trade for future draft picks now?

Surely we could trade Toovey for one of the WA teams first rounder next year, and then hope that team bombs terribly during the year.

Or hasn't that been introduced yet?:confused:

Obivously i wouldnt want to be left with nothing. But surely a club is willing to give up something half decent for a premiership ready made young defender.

Re: Pies 2011 Official Trade Rumour Thread 2011 - Part II

If GWS signed him as an uncontracted player, it would be a win for us because we get draft pick, hopefully at the end of second round, that we can use in a different draft, and GWS can pay Toovey the money he doesn't deserve.

A second round IS half decent and all we can reasonably hope for. No club with a pick in the first round will give it up for Toovey, count on that.

Toovey would be Band 4 like Fraser unfortunately. As an aside do we still have the Fraser compo pick or did we trade it away? I can't remember.

Not when they know the squeeze is on our cap. Puts us almost up shit creek really.

^^^ Not available yet matty- in fact may never be available.
Well that's stupid, it would add another element to trade week, and give clubs a chance to trade something that's in the future.

I'd love to get a teams first round pick, then cheer them on every time they lose the next season, would be awesome.:p

Maybe, but my NFL side the Atlanta Falcons cocked up their trade week this year doing just that. Trading away practically every good pick for the next 3 years to get up to pick 6 in the hope this WR was the 'missing piece' of the superbowl puzzle and they've gone 2-3 so far. :eek:

And now he's gone and done his hammy.:p:eek:

Is it just me or is Mitch Brown pretty ordinary? Always comes up in trade discussions and I'm thinking it must be more than the brotherly link. Looked okay early, but since then when he hasn't been injured, I've felt he looked really shaky.

Expanded list and increased salary cap:
Team GWS will also have an expanded list size and TPP allowance in the club’s initial time in the competition, through to 2019, as follows:

2012 - 44-50 senior list, nine rookies with $640,000 - $1m TPP extra allowance;
2013 - 44-50 senior list, nine rookies with $640,000 - $1m TPP extra allowance;
2014 - 44-50 senior list, nine rookies with $640,000 - $1m TPP extra allowance;
2015 - 44-48 senior list, nine rookies with $640k - $880k TPP extra allowance;
2016 - 42-46 senior list, nine rookies with $520k - $760k TPP extra allowance;
2017 - 40-44 senior list, nine rookies with $400k - $640k TPP extra allowance;
2018 - 38-42 senior list, nine rookies with $200k - $520k TPP extra allowance;
2019 - 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs.

I think he was ordinary when used forward and hasn't been given consistent games in defence since. But I wouldn't be that excited if we were to recruit him. I'd prefer Stevens tbh if we were to lose Toovey. That would be decent compensations other altermatives considered.

Thanks guys for the information on GWS' salary cap concessions and list size. :thumbsu:

A few things have been made clearer by reading through articles on the HUN website;
a) Both Freo and WCE must have the cap space for Toovey currently, because both have made plays for Mitch Clark. Melbourne have put forward a better offer for Clark to the Lions, so it's not all done and dusted that he goes to Freo either.
b) GWS are offering trades to avoid ruling themselves out of taking uncontracted players from clubs in 2012. The deadline for taking players out-of-contract this year was at 1700 according to the HUN, and GWS are still planning on offering Power and Cornes playing-coach type roles, but haven't taken them as yet. This means they'll have to trade for them, which is still a possibility for Toovey and would make sense.
c) With WCE being compensated for Ebert, they should be in a good position to trade for players (other than Clark) if they're keen.

Every team but Geelong, Saints and probably Hawks/Blues would have the current cap space to accomodate Toovey's demands.

Unfortunately for him (at the moment) nobody is prepared to meet them and if they are, they know we cannot, therefore why trade for him when they can acquire him for free via the PSD?

I've just got a bad feeling about all this, he will walk IMO and unfortunately we hold no bargaining power for any forthcoming trade- if indeed any come.
