I've been meaning to start this thread for the last few days since I saw Ernie Els on CNN talking about his plans to topple Tiger Woods within three years. Got me thinking of what poker goals I would like to achieve in the next 12 months. Now I don't have time right now to start my list, but I'll open the floor for all of you.

For reference, a similar thread has been started over at PNW.

Re: Poker Goals for 2007

Start playing regularly in a live cash game, i.e. not every two weeks, or once a month or so. This probably won't happen due to school, but I'd like it to.

And then, as a longshot, start entering some tournaments. Though I doubt it, with the money I earn.

Re: Poker Goals for 2007

These are mine: (in no particular order)

1. Win another WAPL event
2. Finish in top 50 for season 3 of WAPL
3. Cash at season 3 GF for WAPL
4. Qualify for ME online
5. Win a tourney at Burswood
6. Qualify through Burswood for 2008 Aussie Millions (in November 2007)
7. Keep my superb record of final tables for tourneys entered at Burswood intact (i'm 3/3)
8. Don't play so much online poker that it effects my personal life ( a real important point for a lot of players me thinks)
9. Take a week or 2 off when needed. (i'm into week 2 of my current 4 week break)

That is all i can think of for now, but i might add more. Some might seem out there, but whats the point of seeting small goals. 2007 will be the year that i will see if i am cut out to eventually be a pro.

Re: Poker Goals for 2007

1) I've recently started a new job so my immediate goal is to buy a few poker books and do a bit of reading
2) I won my first APL event and was reasonably pleased with my season but I'd like to expand on that next season by qualifying for the State Championships
3) Invest some money and start playing online

Re: Poker Goals for 2007

I'll make a brief start, and update it over the next week.

  1. Play more regularly. My ROI has been good, but I don't play enough, and I haven't played at all for the past 8-10 weeks (well until a couple days ago)
  2. Build my live bankroll to at least $3000 (maybe $5000)
  3. Turn a profit in 2007, winning players should have winning years, Mike Matusow excluded
  4. Recoup my losses at the Limit tables
  5. Play more Crown tournaments
  6. Make another final table at a Crown tournament
  7. Win a Crown tournament
  8. Cash in a major Crown tournament (and thus get a page on HendonMob)
  9. Read as much as I can on Limit, No Limit, Omaha and Omaha/8 (I have no Stud goals)
  10. Take a holiday to Tasmania (or Queensland) and include poker on my itinerary
Haven't thought about APL/online as yet. I don't think I'll ever play APL regularly, my goal was to win one, I did that, I don't really care that much for it.

Just to boast for a second, I think I currently hold the BigFooty record for highest final table finish at a casino tournament, although DoubleA holds the record for the largest cash at a casino tournament (higher buy-in too). Has anyone else had a cash that we should know about?

Re: Poker Goals for 2007

(I have no Stud goals)

Funny you mention that. I was going to list "improve Stud game and read more theory" as one of mine, but felt it really didn't need to be listed. I don't care what anyone says, I want to get (fairly) good at all the games, and I feel this is the area I need work on most.

Or maybe it's because I can only practice against morons who call every street, who knows.

What about cashing in a MTT on-line tournalment ?
Does coming 21st in the $US1000000 guaranteed Poker Stars tournalment count ?

Of course it counts, only reason I singled out live winnings cos I don't think many of us have done that. I'd say most of you have done better than me online, note that I haven't listed any online goals as yet, will need some time to think about that. So, how much did you win? Must have been decent! I know Falchoon has had many good cashes online, DoubleA has done ok too I believe, and I think Frizzo has had some big wins too. And Crosby's play money account is bursting at the seams :D

Yeah. Keep in mind I'm not exactly the richest person in the world.

I do have more important things to spend my money on rather than gambling. I'm 20 and I live by myself, and I study. Hence my goal of trying to get there regularly this year. Sure it's a small goal compared to you superstars, but it's something. I'm sure poker isn't going anywhere soon.

If I had the money to play regularly, I would. I don't, so I don't. You'd think there has to be a reason as to why I don't play much, and that's pretty much it. I have bills and rent to pay, and I don't make that much right now.

But, whatever. If I can get to Crown once/twice per month, I'm happy with that. I'm not a poker player, it's just a hobby.

Edit - I'm 20 now. Not 19, Lol.

Are you Australian Crosby? Cos it seems like you can't tell when someone is taking the piss. Your reasons for not playing more often are valid but they were also obvious to all on the board. When you type you sound like a knowledgeable poster but it's fun to have a bit of playful ribbing. None of it is meant to even be semi serious.

Re: Poker Goals for 2007

All of my goals for 2007 come from Harrington on Hold'em 3. I had about 5 "weak spots" from there and as soon as I read them I agreed with most of them. Will type em later if I can find em.

I think it was. Pretty interesting reading and well set it. Goes through old hands and imaginary hands and lets you play through them with Dan basically judging both your play and the original play. He actually criticises himself at one point too.:)

I'm fully aware he was joking. I wasn't attacking him, I was just stating my reasons for why my goals as so, well, low compared to others.

Dude, it's not like I'm playing high limit poker myself.
