2006 flag tainted - Sheehan

We were apparently on drugs in the 90's and 2000's sure, but its the type of drugs that make the difference.

If the players were on performance enhancing drugs then sure, I get why the premiership(s) would he tainted. However I think its a well established fact that the stuff the guys were on in the 2000's were party drugs. If anything, that makes the the premiership more amazing if a majority of the club was off their nuts trying to remain upright and breathing, let alone play a game of footy.

Sure, recreational drugs are a serious issue and all. But I don't personally feel that you can compare cheating the system through drugs with going off your face in the name of "a good time".

If anything, the whole saga of the 2000's has stuffed us more now because the clubs gone super family safe and takes no risk with anything.

Sheehan is just another irrelevant victorian journalist speculating. flog or troll, take your pick
Still making a handy buck out of journalism at 68yrs of age. Hardly an irrelevant flog and undoubtedly has a greater knowledge of the game than you.

Well, 2005 and 2006 were two of the worst years for football i can remember, shocking standard of play, stifled by the flood and an almost ruinous game plan by both the Swans & Eagles. Perhaps the Eagles were driven so crazy by the Swans style of play they were looking for mentally enhancing substances just to get them through the whole ordeal? It must've been a very easy decision for Chris Judd to make when he decided to come back to Melbourne.

One of the most embarrassing pieces of AFL history. A meth riddled club winning the GF.

No doubt Meth helped a lot of West Coast players with the ability to run and sustain a level they weren't capable of naturally.

And then then the following year we have the main spearhead of the opposition punch someone in the guts and is allowed to play the following week when every man and his dog knew he should go based on that years tribunal decisions. Who was the chair of the tribunal at the time. The one and only David Jones, same guy as the supplement saga chair. He has a long history working with the AFL and the results they need.

Greater knowledge of the victorian football no doubt. Not sure too much of that knowledge stretches past the border though.

The ability to make a buck or having a good knowledge doesn't equal quality.

Mike is the McDonalds of the football world, pandering to the masses with a superficial and poor quality product.

2005 was the year Hall was cleared, not after 2006. Perhaps you should have gone easy on the crack pipe yourself back then and you would remember these things.

The most embarrassing part of AFL history is your clubs performance the last few years after being caught out.

On the couch - Love the way Roos and Gerard would try to keep a straight face as Mike would mix up player and team names as he mumbled his way through his opinion. Time to retire Sheehan as you clearly don't have it anymore. As for 2006, FFS, let it go.

Sorry got the years mixed up in reverse. Both points still valid.

Disgrace to think a meth'd up club hasn't had the flag taken off them. We are way too soft on dirty drugs like meth and we should wack anyone that goes near it.

A regular meth user + afl athlete would have been able to push their body a lot more than the other guys out there. Absolute disgrace what we know now. Not sure how the hierarchy at the Eagles and AFL can sleep well with their sweeping it all under the carpet culture. There are a few players beyond help right now and the next bit of news may be the last. If they got onto it a little earlier and tried to protect them rather than the brand things may be different.

It's only performance enhancing if you are caught using it on match day, there was zero positive drug tests returned by Eagles players in that period.

Team loses 2 Brownlow medalists and declines, shock horror.

In other news the sky is blue.

But in all seriousness it was Rowan Jones and his growing bald patch that was the inspiration for the team.

I challenge all those commenting on meths apparently obvious performance enhancing ability (i'll guess that most haven never even tried what they are heaping s**t on) to one smoke a fat glass barby and then two play a game of footy. You will feel sick, dehydrated, body temp thru the roof, heart rate up near the death zone, sore bones/joints and the euphoria will be long gone, smoking it will destroy your lungs and ability to pump fresh blood around the body. You will have the shakes and being overly anxious/excited does not correlate to great hand eye coordination. The euphoric mindset will subdue rapidly (it subdues after 10-30 minutes without exercise anyway) due to the more pressing physical symptoms. Seriously performance enhancing for chess, table tennis maybe, but for one of the hardest cardiovascular sports on earth no ******* way. Having your heart rate at a resting 170 bpm is not performance enhancing at all. especially when it could be like 120bpm. Please smoke some meth and go for a run before you start advocating/talking s**t re use in AFL as performance enhancing, you mark ass bitches.

Interesting period that was around 2005-07. Funny thing was after 2007, when Judd, Cousins, Chick and Dare I say it.... Rowan Jones left, that team fell apart.
there was another team that came from nowhere to make a prelim in 2006 and fell back down just as quick in 2007. interesting times out west indeed
