Hawks have done ridiculously well, to only have to travel 3 times is amazing.

Tough double up matches is the offset to that, but still would be rubbing their hands together that they get 15 games in Vic plus another 4 at their second home down in Tassie.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

You're forgetting how shit WC were in 2010, and when that fixture came out, it was seen an easy win, WCE at subi going by 2010 form was a piss easy feat even for NM. Just so happened they were a surprise packet in 2011, so technically the AFL only dogged you with 2 relatively difficult games, Freo aren't anything special either.

Plus you got GC twice. I'm sorry though, any draw that's not as easy as your 2012 draw in comparison will be seen by you supporters as a conspiracy by the AFL against NM... honest mistake.

Yeah but it wasn't so much the trips to Perth as it was when we came back to Melbourne we played sides who had 2 days extra break and no travel.

Re: Clubs fixtures from worst to best according to The Age

teams form change rapidly at the start to end of a season, but one thing that won't change is that collingwood have to travel the least with one of the fewest 6 day breaks of any one else. expect them to finish top 2 again...

Collingwood travel 5 times, Hawthorn 3.

True but i guess the main thing is winning games, winning games means bums on seats and more people signing up membership generally. Its a massive win for you guys in that respect

The only thing is that many of the interstate teams would be wins no matter where you play them next year. West Coast, Fremantle and Sydney would be the only tough ones and we got 2 of those plus an easy one in Port

Of course we get our 14 games at MCG IT IS PART OF THE AFL CONTRACT SO SUCK IT UP PRINCESS

I hate to defend Collingwood, but people complaining about it really have NFI. It's not that bad Richmond plays 13 games at the G and travel 6 times

Ahh please, if you're going to try and win an argument, at least phrase your comments correctly.

And they avoided Geelong in Geelong for, well, the first time ever

Richmond supporters will be happy making the trip down.

The ultimate "no longer big 4" insult.

Richmond have already been playing in Geelong over recent years...

2006 - Rd9
2007 - Rd 18
2009 - Rd2
2010 - Rd6

If it's an insult, then the AFL have been insulting Richmond for years. 2012 is nothing different.

Draw Difficulty

Just taking into account who each team plays twice, this fixture is a massive departure from the usual evenness, and obviously deliberately so. I've been analysing these draws for the past decade and most years I can confidently say that the choice of opponent won't cost or benefit anyone more than 3-4 premiership points (on average). It has also sometimes been slightly biased in favour of the top teams, though not significantly. Not so this year.

Collingwood play last year's 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 8th twice. Those teams scored 320 premiership points between them, only four short of the theoretical worst draw Collingwood could have had (with Saints or Swans instead of Bombers). On the other hand their theoretical best draw would be 68 points (GWS plus 2011's bottom four).

Here's the order from toughest to easiest compared to their possible range of second opponents:

Code:
      [B]CLUB[/B] [B]AvgPts[/B] [B]Difficulty[/B]
       Coll 64 98.4%
       Haw 57 82.6%
       Geel 53 76.2%
       WCE 49 65.7%
       Syd 47 58.0%
       W.Bd 46 57.3%
       Carl 45 56.8%
       Ess 45 54.5%
       P.A. 43 47.7%
       B.L. 42 45.5%
       St.K 38 42.7%
       Rich 37 41.3%
       Freo 35 37.8%
       N.M. 32 32.9%
       GWS 33 24.6%
       Melb 27 23.8%
       Adel 27 22.1%
       G.C. 27 16.7%
I'll tackle travel next.

am i reading this right? Hawks get 3 interstate games if you dont include their Tasmania games? wow. Well done. Would be happy if you were a Hawks fan

Absolute sham. Collingwood should considering selling a few games to Albury and see if that appeases the interstate requirement like we are seeing for Hawthorn.

2nd time this has happend since 2010 & we've won more games than any club in the AFL in this period. It won't stop others thinking we get easy draws.

And these are just dumb!:

R17 Sunday
Sydney Swans vs. St. Kilda SCG 1.10pm 1.10pm FOX
Richmond vs. North Melbourne MCG 3.15pm 3.15pm SEVEN

R16 Saturday
Melbourne vs. Fremantle Etihad Stadium 1.45pm 1.45pm SEVEN
Port Adelaide vs. Essendon AAMI Stadium 2.10pm 1.40pm FOX

Why aren't the Vic teams playing interstate on FTA?

Because, believe it or not, Foxtel don't want to get lumped with all the 'shit' matches.

At a glance, it looks like there could be a bit of change in the top four, considering the discrepancy in difficulty of opposition. Maybe the first year in a while where there have been some genuine upsets in the early weeks of finals, with teams in 5-8 making it through to the preliminary finals, because in reality, they're better teams than the ones above them, but have just had much more difficult fixtures.

No they made an error in the release. It's only WC.
We play WC, Richmond, Melbourne, Port and Adelaide twice

My mistake. Probably the softest draw, along with North. Especially when you consider the derby is always a 50/50 game.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

While Essendon is a bit of a bunny, not that we flog them, they just find ways to lose to us, they tend to perform a lot better at the start of the season when it isn't quite as physical as later in the season games. The last time they beat us was an early season game.

So I am not quite prepared to put down the round 1 game in the 4 premiership points category just yet. If our pre-season start was as sloppy as this year then it could be one we drop, I will get a better feel from seeing the pre-season games.

Is that you Darwinroo?

Think it's time you hit the clubs Tas. :p

This brings Hawthorn's total away interstate games for the last ten years to 41.

Collingwood's total away interstate games for the last ten years = 41.

Does this mean we have to start to talk about how Hawthorn have the draw rigged for them every year? Or does that only apply to Collingwood?

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

Did any Richmond fan honestly expect them to play finals in 2012 even with an easy draw ?
I still remember that late season belting we gave them at the G, Tigers are still a couple of years away.

i dont expect us to play finals this year, just improve the way we play. and if you think thats an easy draw i hate to think whats hard!

I am actually looking forward to that round 1 game, it was one of the best games I watched for the year (despite the result going the wrong way). Both sides will be aiming for finals, match of the round with Hawks v Collingwood.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

Absolute BS, the favoritism AFL is so blatantly clear it's ridiculous.

Gifted 16 premiership points. Clearly NM are having the hand-held by the afl to be guided into the 8. Richmond cop 4 of the top 5 teams from last year in the opening 5 rounds.

Only reason is because Richmond are a sustainable club and can still get people thru the turnstiles even when we are lingering at the bottom, whereas NM and Melbourne for that matter need to be put into the 8 to ensure they don't go bankrupt.

Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon and Richmond's draw difficulty largely revolves around if the above said clubs happen to be any good or not. You get easy draws when they suck, you get hard ones when they don't. It is not a great time to be wanting all the big crowd/ratings games because these clubs don't suck atm.

Our draw is easy because most of our games are sunday twilight games exclusive to fox, it is hard to line up all the best clubs for that timeslot.
