Ahead of the 2013 AFL season, Head Coach of the Melbourne Demons, Mark Neeld has called a press conference to confirm mounting media speculation that he would be stepping away from AFL Football effective immediately. Neeld cited emotional fatigue and stated that he physically and emotionally could not tolerate the harsh demands of being a head coach in the AFL landscape, and said that he need time to recuperate, before hopefully returning to an AFL environment in some capacity, emphatically ruling out another stint as head coach, saying that 12 months was all he needed to know being the face of an AFL Club was not for him. This now puts heat on the Demons, who had started pre-season training last week, and must now find themselves another senior coach.
