Playing home game at greatest rivals home ground :drunk:

AFL foolish in this, SANFL, Norwood and Port Adelaide scheduled a pre-season SANFL game (or 2?) at Norwood Oval on Friday, AFL calls it off after everyone had turned up and even the umpires had made it onto the field.

This truly happened. Only it was the Norwood reserves vs Port academy practice match that was Packered.
The Magpies vs Redlegs league sides still played their practise game. It didn't end well. ..

That's because it was the full Norwood league side vs the Power Academy side, not one AFL listed player played on Friday night. Norwood won easily 14.12.96 to 4.9.33 (53-4 @ half time).

The Reserves game was called off at the last minute duebto a contract in place between NFC & AFL stating that only one game was to be played on Friday Night. Considering it has not rained in Adelaide since January 12th tbe extra game would not have chopped up the pitch at all.

The Redlegs ground staff have worked miracles in the last three weeks turning the ground from a baseball diamond (Adelaide Bite hosted ABL Grand Final Series), into an AFL standard oval.

Pretty sure there wont be many Norwood locals at the game like KT is hoping for though!

Turning up at a quality club like Norwood is fine but turning up in Glenelg would just feel dirty

Not sure but I read in the Advertiser that there weren't any Power listed players in Magpie colours on Friday night.

Result doesn't matter, as long as we don't get thrashed, a lot of youngsters and a few players looking to step up (Shep/Yeo/Lycett), to watch. Really excited to see Duggan, Lamb and Waterman have a crack

Waterman and Powell played for East Perth yesterday so they won't be making an appearance in this game.

I guess we are playing at Norwood because only Norwood and Richmond Oval's don't have cricket played on them whereas all the other ovals around Adelaide still have their cricket pitch. Last year there was a match at Richmond so only fair to go somewhere else. Just hope we don't run into those feral eastern suburbs povo's around the Parade

Better warm your hands up for some serious clapping at the Parade!

Do u think I can get a ticket at the gate today? How much for an adult?

Free if you have 2015 membership for both club supporters. As for getting a ticket at the gate, can't see why not. BTW anyone know how many Coopers stadium holds?

$18 for adults

Elizabeth and Noarlunga don't have cricket pitches either, nor does Thebarton (though all have previously hosted practice matches under the old format). Norwood is the last of the SANFL non-cricket grounds to host an AFL pre-season match.

In fact, the match at Elizabeth (Adelaide v Melbourne in 2010) had a near-similar farcical lead up when the AFL kicked Centrals and the Eagles off Elizabeth (who were scheduled to play trial matches the night before). They gave the clubs 2 days notice for this, resulting in a hastily convened 6 quarter match at Thebarton on a Friday evening which ended in darkness under the old Thebarton lights. Best part was the council locked the main gates out onto Ashley St before the game ended so it was quite a long walk back to the car despite being parked across the road from the ground.

Can I sit down and watch the Australia-Sri Lanka cricket game without the PA across the road blowing that abomination of a theme song of West Coast's?

People say that NAB Challenge matches don't really matter (which is true) but to play this well early on is surely a very good indication for Port in 2015.
