How the hell is that a free to Lewis he knew he was hot so dropped to his knees.

I agree with you but if they were going to pay frees for illegal contact that you initiate then Selwood wouldn't get a kick again

St Kilda is probably running on all the cylinders at the moment. A bit like a Datsun 120Y screaming it's head off down the freeway and not getting above 80.

Some work to do before you DeLorean can reach 88 mph

Yes, I am sure he decided not to watch the game because Hawthorn did not look up to scratch.

Hey now I was just trying to put the performance into perspective, it's pre season hardly anything to get excited about

back to back to back here we come * sarcasm intended

Instead of focussing on irrelevancies you should be more concerned about a very poor overall performance by the Saints. I had really hoped for better, but alas, looks like another long, fruitless season.

If only we could celebrate beating Box Hill like you guys.

I think Dermie's commentary has been brilliant, while people have been muting, I've turned up the volume.

Dermie's good for those without a football record.

He tells you how tall and heavy everyone is, over and over.

Don't know why we fielded the weakest side of the series in game 3. Injuries to a heap don't help but the resting of players is odd.

Result as you'd expect.

Saints team missing about 8-10 walk up starts. Full strength still would have lost by 12-15 goals.

Good stuff from Saad, Lonie, Dempster, Steven, Weller.

Hoping for improvement from Delaney, Fisher, Bruce. But little hope for Saints forwards or defenders in that sort of game.

Richo's been around. He knows what he's doing.

We looked very average in the pre-season last year than surprised many in the first 6 weeks of the season.

I'm hoping it's similar this season, but injuries may dictate we'll be weak the whole way through.

Why on earth would you rest most of your team's best players in the final practice match before the season proper? It's the last chance to blow cobwebs off and fine tune your game plan and best 22.

Really don't know what's in the water down at Seaford but there's an awful stench about it.

St Kilda fans will need this for this year:

Needed to add to warning "or breaking of wall/ door/ window"

Because they are injured.

You think we actually wanted to rest them?

Ross Lyon really destroyed this club.
This is a really naive and uninformed thing to say.
Well run clubs have a football department which includes a recruiting and development section.
its their job to look after the list and make sure that their is sufficient players in all the age demographics.
Hawthorn for instance and Geelong through astute trading and drafting are able to have young players being developed in the seconds and regular refresh the team as the older players drop off.

Its the coaches job to win games of football with the players at his disposal.
Geelong won 3 flags so were able to pension and trade off old players to refresh the team knowing that the club could take dropping a few places on the ladder in a mini rebuild. Hawthorn will probably do the same after this year.

The Saints couldn't grasp the ultimate so kept going as hard as they could with the best players they had and tried to top up. This is not the coaches fault. He was trying to win a premiership which is what he's paid to do.

At Freo we have players coming through underneath all our veterans on all the lines where they are needed. But thats not what Lyon is doing. He's trying to win a flag with the players he's got to work with. Thats what he gets paid for. Saint Kilda didn't have the proper structures in place to manage the list for when the older players retired. They let it go on too long This is not Lyon's fault.

It is also the coaches job to develop young players for the future instead of refusing to play any kids for the now.

Not if they aren't good enough. How easy do you think it is to break into the team at Hawthorn or Sydney?
No coach goes into a game of AFL footy without the best players he can put out there to win that game of football.
If the young players are good enough they force their way in. Like Neale, Sutcliffe, Crozier and Taberner have last 2 years Freo and how Blakely and Weller will this year. If a young player is better he'll play. You don't play them if they aren't better than the incumbents.
That is what the seconds is for. Developing them till they demand selection. Just like Hawthorn do at Box Hill.
Saint Kildas drafting, trading and development was diabolical, thats not down to Lyon. Thats the footy departments job.

Ross Lyon can't develop talent, that's a big reason why St.Kilda are nigh on useless now. He will be out of Freo before you know once you blokes bottom out, pretty average bloke IMO.
