DAY 1

It’s been a tough few weeks on the track since the players returned for pre-season but our annual Noosa training camp will be another challenge altogether.

We touched down on the Sunshine Coast yesterday to hot and humid conditions, perfect weather for high intensity training.

Things kicked off early this morning at the Noosa Tigers Football Club and the boys were excited to train in a different environment under unique circumstances.

This trip is not just about becoming physically fitter and stronger, it’s also about developing leadership skills and bonding as a playing group.

It gives us a great opportunity to go into the Christmas break with a lot of positive momentum and hit the ground running in 2016.

On the first day it was pleasing to see our new draftees keep up with their more experienced teammates and hold their own on the track.

Jacob Hopper, Matt Kennedy, Harrison Himmelberg and Matt Flynn have made a seamless transition into our club and we expect them to maintain that high standard of training throughout the week.

At the other end of the scale our experienced campaigners continue to lead the way with their professionalism and intensity.

Watching players like Callan Ward and Ryan Griffen compete in tackling drills today really sets the standard for the entire group.

They inspire others to follow their example and give the younger guys something to strive for.

Today was a solid 2.5 hour training session followed by weights rotation and some boxing.

It was great to see some support from local fans and we appreciate everyone who came down to watch the session. Our fans mean everything to us.

Tonight the players will split up into smaller groups for dinner before having an early night ahead of the infamous Noosa beach session tomorrow.

Will touch base again tomorrow,

Leon Cameron.

Bugger!

http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2015-12-16/injury-setbacks-for-haynes-and-patfull

GIANTS defenders Nick Haynes and Joel Patfull have both suffered minor set-backs in the lead up to the 2016 season. Haynes, who was carefully managed with groin soreness last season, had surgery and will resume training early in the new year. Meanwhile Patfull flagged foot soreness this week and a subsequent scan revealed bone bruising to his heel. The veteran will wear a boot and use crutches for the next fortnight in order to minimise impact and pressure on the foot. The duo are both set to resume modified training in January. GIANTS Head of Athletic Performance David Joyce said neither injury should compromise the availability of the pair before the opening game of the 2016 premiership season. “We gave Nick Haynes every opportunity to rest his groin over the break but unfortunately he just couldn’t get it 100 per cent right so a decision was made to put him in for surgery,” Joyce said. “Everything went well and we expect him to be running in the new year. Joel Patfull complained of heel soreness and he’s been instructed to rest up until training resumes in January."

The rest of the playing group continue their pre-season training camp on the Sunshine Coast this week before going on Christmas break for a fortnight.

Not having watched the videos as yet, but does anyone know what the deal with the watermelon is?

Players split into four teams - red, yellow, green, black.
Each team given a watermelon to keep for the week. Someone responsible for getting the melon through all the drills/obstacles/races etc.

I assume first team to drop/break the melon loses

Sounds like an episode of "The biggest loser"

Found it, SJ 2nd is also good!

It’s been a tough week up in Noosa, but I couldn’t be prouder of the boys.

Our Sunshine Coast training camp came to an end this afternoon following a solid 3-hour session at Maroochydore Oval.

After some solid football training we finished off with the now famous Alan McConnell Cup Time Trial which is always a test of players resilience at the end of a hard week.

The Handicap event was taken out by Jon Patton with Steve Johnson coming a close second

The boys will have a much needed rest for a fortnight before returning to training in early January.

Our first game is only a few months away and there’s a lot to look forward to in 2016.

On behalf of the club I would like to wish all GIANTS fans a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holidays.

We really appreciate all your support and can’t wait to get stuck in next year.

GO GIANTS!

Interesting to see that nick Maxwell was present on our training camp!

I thought he was just a leadership consultant but appears to be taking on a development coaching role

Apparently going to be on the sidelines for some of our games in sydney and all our melbourne games so its a fairly broad role
