- East Perth co-captain Brendan Lee, Peel Thunder's Leroy Jetta and South Fremantle's Cory Dell'Olio will not play in the WAFL in 2016 after being suspended in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling on the Essendon supplements saga. Lee is banned until 13 November 2016, Dell'Olio till 14 November 2016 with Jetta unable to play until 15 February 2017. As a result of the ruling, Dell'Olio is reportedly considering retirement.
- In light of the supplements finding, several WAFL players are now on the radar with Jordan Lockyer, Matthew Watson, Ryan Crowley, Aidan Tropiano amongst others all a chance of finding a place on Essendon's list. WAFL clubs have called for compensation if a player is drafted as an Essendon "top-up" player for 2016 facing the prospect of losing players just two months from the beginning of the season. Compensation could be as high as $35,000 which is the amount given to clubs who have a player taken in the national draft. It is unclear however who would foot the bill for the compensation.

Nothing confirmed yet, only heard on Sports Today this morning, so I wouldn't read a great deal into it and it would need to be passed through GWS as well but there's a definite possibility of Cam McCarthy suiting up at Souths or Peel in 2016 if he stays in WA long term.

Both teams are in a position where they need to replace Essendon suspended players (Leroy Jetta, Corey Dell'Olio) and McCarthy is seen as a player that may be targeted after being granted indefinite leave from GWS. Cam's an old South Freo boy so I think it would be a logical choice for him to land there but Peel Dockers are definitely interested in obtaining his services, possibly before him joining the Dockers via trade in 2017.

Massive move if it happens but I can't see GWS and the AFL being overly thrilled about it.

- Carnarvon looks set to host a WAFL premiership match on 6 August between South Fremantle and Perth provided the facilities at Festival Grounds are up to scratch. Officials from South Fremantle will visit the ground in February or March with the match to go ahead should the ground be meet the required standards.
- Jordan Matera, son of Peter is planning to play with South Fremantle in the WAFL this season after being overlooked in November's national draft and rookie draft. Matera's cousin Bailey is already on South's list and has been a regular fixture in the reserves.
- Claremont's Corey Yeo is out for the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in an incident at training last week at Claremont Showgrounds. The Tigers midfielder went to change direction on the joint but collapsed to the ground towards the end of the session with later scans revealing he has torn his ACL.
- Brett Peake may make a comeback with East Fremantle in 2016. Peake played amatuers for North Fremantle last season but has trained with the Sharks during the pre-season and will play in the club's first intraclub fixture in a few weeks' time.

Shocking luck for Corey Yeo who was settling himself into Claremont's best 22 in 2015. Old Easts boy and a relative, may even be a brother of West Coast's Elliot. Wishing him all the best in his recovery and hopefully see him back at the Tigers in 2017.

He is the older brother of Elliot.

Peel have absolutely no right to McCarthy as he is a SF boy.

It's irrelevant once a player is out of the AFL system, if (when) Mcarthy walks he can head to any team he likes as a delisted Free agent.

He will magically end up at Peel and have 1 or 2 years working with the 2's on the Fremantle game plan.

True McCarthy can go anywhere he wants, but pretty sure SF can ask for a transfer fee then, due to the fact any delisted AFL player from WA automatically returns to their local club for registration purposes. Plenty of guys choose to go elsewhere, eg: ex saint Clint Jones who has gone to PFC, but still required a transfer from SF to get there.

- 2014 Subiaco premiership ruckman Frank Stockley has retired after 44 WAFL matches. Stockley did not play in 2015 after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the pre-season and has instead decided to focus on his career as a real estate agent and also on family.
- Will Maginess looks likely to get to East Perth with the WAFC likely to allow the Royals to recruit Maginess as their second player from outside their zones/alignment. It's believed the recruitment of Maginess will be approved as the Royals have lost co-captain Brendan Lee for the season due to the Essendon Supplements saga.

That's a real shame. Not sure we really got to see the best of Stockley. For so long he was an understudy to Keunan at WP and he finally makes a good go of #1 ruckman at Subi, then does his ACL.

- Rory O'Brien has officially returned to Peel Thunder in a trade which sees Dylan Winton head to East Fremantle.
- The WAFL has changed the rules for the Colts' competition with players not eligible to play league or reserves until the completion of the National 18 and Under carnival. Players who have played reserves and league in 2015 will be exempt from this rule however.
- Perth have been granted an extra 10 salary cap points after their request was approved on equalisation grounds.
- South Fremantle will be allowed to sign a top-up player with no salary cap points restriction after Cory Dell'Olio was banned as part of the Essendon supplements saga.
- After resigning from the senior coach position at East Fremantle midway through last season, Steve Malaxos has signed on as Swan Districts' midfield coach for 2016.
- Sam Grimley has left Subiaco after being signed by Essendon as one of their 10 top-up players for 2016 after several current Essendon players were banned from playing in 2016 after the infamous supplements saga.
- The redevelopment of Claremont Oval has begun and is due for completion in December. Claremont will once again play home games at Claremont Showgrounds for the 2016 season.
- Former West Coast listed player Jamie McNamara has been named as captain of East Fremantle for the upcoming season replacing Rory O'Brien who has left to join Peel Thunder.
- Brett Peake has returned to Shark Park for 2016 after spending 2015 playing in the amateurs with North Fremantle. Peake returns to the Sharks as a player/coach.
- South Fremantle has signed former Fremantle defender Tom Vandeleur and Jordan Matera, son of former West Coast Eagles' player, Peter.
- East Perth have signed former West Coast rookie Will Maginness after their request to sign a second player from outside their zone/alignment was granted.
- Swan Districts are on the verge of signing East Perth midfielder Freddie Clutterbuck as a replacement for the departed Ryan Crowley.

Thanks for the news Ljp86

Perth getting an extra 10 points is a bit of a joke.

Unpopular opinion: I much prefer going to Claremont Showgrounds than Claremont oval

It's not ideal but I do understand why they've been given an extra 10 points.

Perth's last flag was in 1977 and their record since then has been nothing short of diabolical. Since 1978 they've made the finals three times, the last of which was in 1997. 1997 was the year in which Peel Thunder were admitted to the WAFL so both Perth and Peel Thunder have made the finals once since the WAFL became a nine team competition in 1997. Given how bad Peel have been in that time, it only shows how bad the Demons have been as well and that the finals positions have generally been a raffle between the other seven clubs.

The Demons have also won 10 wooden spoons since 1981, including the last two in a row. They've won five games in the last two seasons and go into 2016 having lost 32 of their last 34 games. Their record over close to the last 40 years would be funny if it wasn't so poor.

An extra 10 points is one decent player or perhaps two serviceable ones if they decide to go down that route. A lot of the issues that Perth have faced over the years has been the result of their own doing so it is easy to see the argument of why they shouldn't be helped given their problems have been created by themselves. Having said that though if the Dees were in the AFL they would have been given multiple financial leg-ups and priority picks by now.

I hope the Demons are able to use the extra 10 points wisely and help them build a good list for the next few years. It's certainly time for the club to pick itself up off the canvas and start having some regular wins and a finals series in the near future.

Somewhat related to player movement thread but Perth have signed a guy who I played some footy with in Sydney, Taran Etto.

On baller who was one of the top players in the Sydney AFL comp in teams that struggled for success. Finished top 5 in the association B & F in 2015 and is a ready made on baller for Perth to add to its stocks, think Paul Bevan (ex Perth Demon) may have had some influence and encouragement in the decision as Taran and Paul both played at Western Suburbs in the Sydney AFL in 2015.

Good to see Julian Jacobs come back to Perth as well after a couple of year hiatus, has kept himself in ripping nick and was a real key player for the Demons earlier this decade.

I thought there were heavy restrictions on out of zone recruiting for Peel and East Perth.

- Shane Nelson is out for eight weeks after breaking his wrist in a scuffle outside Bar120 in Hillarys on Saturday Night. It is alleged Nelson and teammate Trent Manzone were outside waiting for a taxi before being accosted by a group of men.
- Adam Cockie has been suspended for two weeks after pleading guilty for a high bump on West Perth's Brayden Antonio during the Lions' pre-season match against the Falcons on Saturday. Cockie won't be available until Subiaco's Round Two match against East Perth on Good Friday.

Whilst you make some very good points Ljp86.

It does set a very dangerous precedent.

As you have acknowledged much of Perth's ineptitude is self inflicted and as such warrants little sympathy or handouts.

I also get your AFL analogy and ask the question , rather than hand out extra picks ( in this case points ) and financial leg ups , wouldn't it be a better strategy if "Head Office" was to oversee, Key Management / Governance appointments being put in place at the Perth Football Club, by way of an AFL example as was Jackson at Melbourne.

Sort of along the line of its better to teach a man to fish than give him a meal.

I cant help thinking that throwing Perth an extra 10 points is nothing more than a reactive quick and easy short term fix that doesn't adequately address the Clubs underling Management / Governance short comings.

It begs the question if they finish last this season , whats next ? , do you throw them another 10 points going into 2017 !?
Rewarding mediocrity, ( and by the way calling it mediocrity is being both kind and polite) and incompetence is fraught with folly.

As I said before this sets a dangerous precedent.

I agree, I don't necessarily agree with it but can see why they've done it. Personally I believe something similar to what you've suggested should have happened in that the WAFC takes a much more closer look at Perth and become a bit more involved from an administration perspective, similar to what the AFL did with Melbourne when they were deep in debt and were struggling both on-field and off.

The extra 10 points may help the club recruit an extra player or two but it is a short term investment if you like and won't help them in the long run. Hopefully the Demons have got the right people in the administrative roles at the club and that they can get behind Earl Spalding and his players so that they can make their way up the ladder. You would think they will be good enough to beat the two wins they got last season with the players that they have brought in.
