Training 2024 Pre-season training

McNeil had an almost game but his two behinds were the wind dragging the ball into the post at the last second. Overall he was pretty solid and should be in line for round one.

Harmes was good, not spectacular but should stay in.

Vandermeer was poor and I don't think he played after half time.

Daniel was very good when he came on in the second half.

Gallagher does some nice stuff but he's too lightly built. Needs another season of physical development.
Thanks, no great surprises with any of them it seems.

I see Khamis was good - great news. Can we play Jones, JOD, and both of Coffield/Khamis or is that too lacking at ground level/running power?

Absolutely we can and I think we should. It gives us significant aerial presence and all of those guys provide good footskills (even if some lack some run). As long as the other 3 are Richards, Dale & JJ we’ll have plenty of running power off the half back line.

That should be our defensive 7 to start with. Coffield can play smaller than his height.

No we can't play all 3,

Khamis was not ideal with ball in hand however 100% is now our best depth KPD over Keath/Gards

Yeah seems a no brainer for mine when you’re lining them up alongside Richards, Dale & JJ. Could even have Bramble as the sub with the idea of subbing out one of the taller guys, ie Buku/Coffield if we think we need more run & less height down there

Bramble does seem like a logical sub option with his ability to play wing as well to free up other players.

Yeah I think he could have an impact coming on late, his run in the 2nd half made a big difference. I think I’m leaning back towards no dedicated 2nd winger and just rolling Treloar, Macrae, Harmes, Sanders, CD etc through the 2nd wing tbh. Not ideal for a specialist position but I’m just not sure our options there, ie Poulter, Baker, Gags are offering enough over those guys in the position.

Plus I just don’t want to fill our forward line with mids again, so Bramble as sub also helps there too

I'm all in for a backline with Coffield and Khamis to back up Jones and O'Donnell (with rotations through the bench). Khamis reading of the ball flight, reaction speed and intercepting was something we have been crying out for, stopping plays at CHB instead of easy goals. I though he was great on the weekend, giving Chol a bath. Just need to continue to build his offense from defence, yet I think the improved backline is going to be our ticket to rise this year. Most premierships are built from defence. Can't afford injuries though.

Playing as a forward for a couple of seasons would have helped his reading the play etc, if nothing else.

Haven't seen heaps of him but Coffield seems like one of those players that plays smaller than his height as well as taller than his height if that makes sense? He punches out of his division in the air, but is also very good at ground level?
His run and distribution is fantastic and is what we've lacked outside of Ed

What about defending ground balls/playing on smaller players? Can he adapt in that way?
Most of us have only seen him twice. Maybe not quick enough for the small zippy players yet the extra heights helps in the 1 on 1. Very hard to tell, will know more as the season progresses, yet both him and Khamis have fitted in nicely.

Pretty noticeable how much they all dwarf Smith, not accounting for the extra long neck 😂

Also why did they do Bramble dirty like that putting him in that line with the dinosaurs, very stiff 😂

Last year 190+cm Cody Raak was on the kids table, in the front row standing out like a sore thumb. There's always one.

Speaking of necks, Poulter and West are next level.
