Yet Harris was an elite inside midfielder prior to 2008 anyway.

Had his best year in 2007. Had elite games. i don't think he has ever been proper elite though....yet.

I'm just here to bemoan the lack of an 'official' game day thread.

Disappointing. :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I have two hopes for this year, that Grima kills it at full back, and Hansen makes the half forward line his, for the forward flankers to have to eek out a living off his crumbs, and leading into the acres of vacant land he leaves behind him on his long, searching leads.

Oh, and I want Jessica Alba naked in my bed. Make that 3 wishes. Not sure how Ms Ale feels about the third, probably similar to the way I feel about her wishes re Johnny Depp I suppose.

Make no mistake, these two are vital to us taking the next step to being a Premiership threat.

Swallow, Harris, Smith, Urquhart and Wells are the core of our next Premiership engine room.

Would you say Ziebell more than Swallow based on todays showing?
Relax.

Besides, I don't understand the need to have one or the other? By the time Ziebell is ready, the likes of Simpson and Rawlings will be on the way out. Everyone is so quick to judge Swallow on his 2008 season, he played 23 games in 2007 at the age of 19, he obviously has the talent and ability, and is still only 21.

Just wondering where Daniel Harris is at.
From memory he only played one of the nab cup/challenge games and obviously didn't play yesterday.
I haven't heard anything about him being injured so just wondering if anyone has any updates as to what he needs to do to get into the squad?

First loss where our turnovers are highlighted as the problem, Spita may be the victim.
Still think Simmo, Brady, Spitz and the (normal) Power, combo isnt sustainable against quality and will bring us undone, perhaps even next week. Harro will be in before round 4 IMO.

Nothing wrong with Spitz and Powers game yesterday, Rawlings should not be there! Harro / Ross and Warren should be fighting for Lower and Rawlings spots imo

Rawlings hasnt played midfield all year. Has been played as a ultra defensive defender (defending against dangerous smalls).

I guess with the noises coming out of the stronger midfielded teams, you will find a lot of pure ball winnining midfielders spending more time up forward instead of resting on the bench (ablett, judd etc). A defensive tagger (as opposed to midfield tagger) could be the way to go for Brady. I know all defenders are taggers in a sense but I think you will find that if we zone off in defense, brady will be staying with his man and unlike last year where we played an 18 man zone at opposition kick ins, it looked as though yesterday we were playing 16 man zone with brady one out with Davey and a pure full back minding the back half of the ground (even though there was no-one else around). Minding the back half in case of a fast break/counter attack move.

I think there is room for Harris in the midfield group, he and Swallow just need to work a lot harder outside of stoppages, they don't seem to get a lot of the ball when the game is free flowing. They don't need a massive overhaul, just run a bit harder and get an extra 2 touches a quarter would push their typical low 20s disposal count to around the 30ish mark.

There was nothing wrong with Spitz disposals on the weekend, was 88% or so for efficicency, compared to Boomers 38% made him like like Judd.

If Firrito is going to be played as a mid, definately can't have Swallow and Harris in the same side. To be honest would rather get game time into Jack Zeibell than have both Harris and Swallow as he would likely be the guy to miss if both play.

Call me crazy but I can't see us winning a premiership this year without Harris in the guts playing the best footy of his career. From a development perspective though I guess that could be another story. Who would have thought that the success of a possible Thompson / Hansen / McMahon combo could determine his fate.

Hopefully he can turn it around, its in his hands to push for selection by consistantly performing in the Magoos.

Good luck Harro

We can't afford to have Harris in the side if his footy is great one week and shizen the next. He has to find a consistent level he can maintain all season.

Hawthorn won with a midfield full of a lot of hard consistent workers more than they did from blazing talent. Those stoppage specialists just need to work out how to get a whole lot more of the ball while being accountable when the game is more free flowing.

In all our craptastic results last year Harris put in shockers, it is no coincidence, it is a real struggle if your main midfielders are struggling to both find the pill and contain their direct opponent.

You can have a bloke in the midfield who tries to break every tackle, but can not, and is a terrible decision maker as well as a terrible kick of the football. He tries hard - granted, BUT, he does not punish sides when gets the ball. I am happy for LAIDLEY to experiment for the first 4 rounds with various players.

It's a good sign isn't it? The fact that we can afford to have guys like Harris and Jones out of the team fighting for a spot. It's great to hold them back and make them not take their position in the team for granted. It makes those in the team work even hearder to keep their positions.

Harris is good enough when at his best to be in the team.

We will have injuries throughout the year ( as we already have with Anthony) and to know guys like Harris, Riggio, Anthony and alike are ready at different stages of the season to step up is great.

One other thing. I always thought Harris and Mitchell were on a par a few years back. Mitchell is clearly the better player now and has been for a while as he runs and uses the ball better. I think Mitchell is the bench mark for what the coaching staff would be asking from Daniel.

Possibly. I hope not.

I hope he gets another go. He's earnt it. I think we'll see him get another go.

Could we just play him as a Watson, Priddis, S.Tuck type player. He's a better kick than all of those footballers. He wins as many clearances. He's as accountable as those guys. He should play looser and receive the easy ball. He can kick. Leave the ultra accountability up to others.

Its god to see they have to fight for there spots.I liked Swalow game yesterday and i would love to see Harris in there burning it up.

Required reading for all those who watch but don't @#$%ing see!
