AFL Draft 2001 v AFL Draft 2008

2012 will be the next great draft, nothing will top 2001 imo.

And in true Richmond fashion - we managed to %$@#*## it up. One OK player (Vickery - but you'd hope for more out of a Top-10) and then one passable - (Nahas) - but he was a rookie. In 2001, because of trades, our first pick was 33, so we missed out there.

If you add Rockliff, Breust, Suckling, De Boer, Simpkin, Delany, Pyke, Picken, Blair, Brougthon, Keefe, (even Garlett, C.Pearce and R.Henderson have forged better than average AFL careers) from the rookie/preseason drafts, 08 is by far the best draft for producing AFL quality players.

Since the 2001 'Superdraft', is it fair to say that the 2008 was the next best?

2006 arguably a challenger considering top end talent and the importance of KPP

Kennedy (Sydney)
Gray

KPP
Hawkins
Reid
Hansen

Every single one of those players in the KPP list are much much better than Garland.

s**t, no idea '06 provided so many class KPP.

That's super impressive.

Yeh. Considering the Kangaroos have been Carltons bitch over the past couple of years that might've influenced my opinion.

Quite the two season dynasty.

Hansen was far from his best against your mob this season (half our squad was) but most would admit he has become a high quality key back in recent seasons, 4th for marks per game in 2014.

Is close to our first picked when fit.

2006s KPP stocks just point out how much of a dud Scott Clayton was for us, he picked a 3 club player Andrejs Everitt over blokes like Reid, Riewoldt, Frawley etc.
Reid was pick eight and taken ahead of Everitt.
Cringle no offense to Carlton or Andrejs but he might be a type who stands out in a mid table/battling side, but can only crack it as a best 25 role player in better teams.
More talented and a better kick for goal than Puopolo who is just a role player in a better team.

Reckon he'd be getting a game at the Dogs with his kicking skills, versatility and run. After Curnow broke his leg, Everitt moved into the midfield and played on Gaff, Sloane, Deledio and Montagna. Exceeded my expectations. Still just 25 like Gibbs, Lachie Henderson and surprisingly, Isaac Smith. Has a lot of good footy ahead of him.

Thought Reid was later, my mistake his brother was. Yes Everitt has good footy left in him in a mediocre/average side. Why was he traded twice by teams in the top 4 at those current times? He's a Mr Fixit, only Tyson Goldsack is the closest type of player to him compared.

Serious question, did Ayce Cordy actually have a huge talent(top 5-10) or was the Bulldogs pick overs at the time?
