No change to the winning team again. Warner and Clarke got back in form with the bat, Pattinson bowled well, and Wade has kept well since being the number 1 keeper without putting anything down.
First lose in a long time but still was a reachable target, Harris, McDonald and Watson all took 3 wickets, but Pattinson and Siddle both were off line and to expenses today. The top three fall pretty cheaply leaving us at 3-30 and once Clarke went for 29 runs we were not looking good on 4-79. Watson and White tried to save us but when White went, both Wade and McDonald fell in the mid 20's, and we just ran out of batsman. Series is alive at 1-1.
Pat Cummins is coming into replace the expense James Pattinson and Matthew Wade has been moved back out the order as we search for the right spot for him. Need to win this one to get back infront in the series.
Harris and Cummins took the wickets but were by far the most expense bowlers, but an all round team effort with the ball. Ponting and Watson were great with the bat today while everyone else struggled on this wicket today. We have a 2-1 series lead now.
Ricky Ponting has past 14,000 runs in ODI, he is now on 14,072.
Win this one and we win the series. Clarke and Wade seem to be the only weak links at the moment, but one is captain and the other is the best keeper in the country.
*I was going to rest Clarke and I made Watson captain but forgot to chance it back for this one.
A few changes for the dead rubber. Siddle and Harris are sitting out so McKay and Pattinson can have a go. Clarke and Ponting are being replaced by Matthew Klinger and Usman Khawaja who make their ODI debuts.
Great effort by the boys today. Clint McKay really took control as the senior bowler today and lead the way. Klinger scored a nice 46 runs, while Khawaja got bowled for 6 with only 10 needed to win. Hughes made a handy 37 runs but Warner hit a beautiful 103 not out. Another series win, this won 4-1.
We have taken a younger team over to the T20 world cup, this isn't a major tournment for us. We pride being the number 1 in Test and ODI but not so much T20, its more a game of chance.
(*P.s. I hate T20 cricket on this game it is annoying!!)
Finally back on home soil to play cricket again. This time it is Numer 1 in the Test ranking we are after that can be possible if we win this series. Michael Clarke will be leading the team as he is a great on field leader but is lacking the runs which should come.
Only the one change with Mike Hussey missing out on selection because of poor form. Two very unknown players in Tim Cruickshank and Nathan Brady were selected in the 12 man squad, Tim is averaging in the high 90's this first class season and Nathan is a young 21 year old leg spinner who has a lot of potential and I want him to spend time around the team.
Crazy game. Peter Siddle just showed why he is the best bowler in the world at the moment with match figures of 10-109. Ponting batted well again putting up scores of 55 and 47no. Tim Cruickshank did alright but just couldn't score fast enough, first innings he got 25 of 127 balls and in the second dig he was 16no of 94 balls, not the best at this level. In South Africa's second innings only Siddle and Harris bowled as they bowled 3 overs each before the tea break on Day 3 to have them 4-16 and bowled another 8 overs each to bowl them out. Siddle pick up a HAT-TRICK with the last three wickets of the innings which now give him two hat-tricks in his career.
Two changes to the starting team with Nathan Brady the 21 year old Leg Spinner making his debut, and Tim Paine coming in as just a batsman. Pattinson was the unlucky quick to miss out since we really wanted a spinner for this match.
South Africa fought back and pushed their weight around to set up an exciting third Test Match. Our run chase wasn't help when we were 2-3 with Watson and Warner both back in the sheds for duck. Clarke pushed himself down the order hoping to try a save the match if needed, well he came in with the score at 6-99 and keeper Matthew Wade on 10, together they made 137 when Clarke fall the score was 7-236 still needing 102 runs to win, when Wade lofted a shot and went for 96 runs (Highest Test Score) our chances looked gone and to add insult to injury Harris copped one high and had to retire hurt from the game. On the up side Shane Watson scored 182 runs (Highest Test Score) and Nath Brady did a good job with 2 wickets.
With Harris missing with injury I felt like I needed another senior bowler in the side especially for this important Test Match. Hifenhaus will fill that role. James Pattinson is coming in for more front line power which means poor McDonald must carry the drink. Mike Hussey is back declaring yesterday the he is long from finished.
Great win. Siddle was great again getting 10-138 for the match, his second ten for. Phil Hughes got hit in the head when he was on 6 runs in the first innings and had to retire hurt from a serious concussion and possibly broken jaw. Warner and Clarke missed out in both innings, both scoring 15 runs and under both digs. Hussey's 103 was inspirational and Matty Wade made 46 runs in the first innings and then followed it up with 85 runs opening the batting, but fall short of his maiden century again. We won the series and should be on top of the rankings.
While we beat South Africa, the Poms dominated a strong India team 4-0 in a 4 match test series which brought us to have three teams on top of the test ranking.
BOWLING RANKINGS TEST MATCH:
Peter Siddle is currently ranked number 1 bowler in the world, Ryan Harris is sitting in 10th in the rankings even tho he missed the last two tests.
BATTING RANKINGS TEST MATCH:
We have three batsman in this list, an all-rounder, wicket-keeper and a veteran. Shane Watson is currently sitting 7th he has been consistent all year with a few big 100's to his name. Matthew Wade is surpisely 9th on the list he has been close to making a 100 but has three 50's and lots of runs to his name. And former number 1 batsman Ricky Ponting is ranked 13th in the world and has been putting up some good numbers even tho he is at the very end of his career.
After a great series result against South Africa we want to make another statement and dominate against the number 6th ranked Sri Lanka and not give them a chance. We can't get any point to move in front of South Africa or England but we don't want to lose any either.
Different looking team to last series. Phil Hughes is out injured still, so we have brought in Adam Coyte who is 21 year old left hand batsman who has been racking up the runs in Domestic cricket. Andrew McDonald has been playing good but we couldn't ignore James Faulkner anymore, his averages are 28 with the bat and 22 with the bowl, he is only 22 years old and a right hand batsman and a left arm bowler which I really wanted in the team. Matthew Wade will bat at the top of the order also after his 85 runs their in the last test.
Ben Hilfenhaus is the man. With Peter Siddle injuring his calf while batting he was unable to bowl at all in this match. Hilfenhaus stood up with the bowl but also with the bat first, he scored an unbeaten 50 runs and then followed it up with 9 for 118. Matthew Wade also put on a 113 run partnership with David Warner as he made 66 runs and Warner smashed his way to another century. Hussey almost got another ton but fall just short. An innings win is just what I wanted but losing Siddle is a big loss.
Adam Coyte looked good and I'm going to be patient with him, James Faulkner bowled good line and length and had a pretty good first up test. Nath Brady is back to replace Peter Siddle, he should love this pitch it looks like it will crack up all over the place. Looking to wrap the series up with this one.
