"Barcelona have been banned from transferring players in the next two windows by FIFA.
The Spanish giants are deemed to have breached rules relating to the "international transfers of non-Spanish minors", according to a statement from the game's governing body, and they have also been fined along with the Spanish FA (RFEF)."

They will appeal......

Interesting to see what might happen with their keeper situation. Ter-Stegen was odds on to go there, and is still keen on moving regardless, but they might miss him. If Valdes moves on, could leave them in a pickle

You'd think if this gets enforced, Valdes (out of contract this summer I believe?) will sign a short term extension to help the club out.

The other one is the Croatian youngster Alen Halilovic, has that deal been signed in principle or is he officially a Barça player now? Was he one of the deals under investigation?

from what i've read its 10 deals from 09-13. What a Colossal fk up by the higher ups. Hopefully ter stegen and halilovic have already signed a pre contract.

fking another glass defence season if barca gets done. GG

Could really hurt Barca (though their academy is amazing) - isn't there talk of Valdes leaving at season's end as well? Throw in Xavi possibly moving on and the retirement of Puyol and they could have a few gaps across the pitch needing to be filled. If the ban stands, would expect them to be pretty aggressive in the free transfer market (unless free transfers are also included in the ban?).

2 transfer period ban - that's a bit like what we've gone through, just without the fine! :D

That's the reason they are in the s**t ;) Breaking rules to sign up foreign youngsters.

They have 90 days to come up with the excus...I mean....evidence to show that the transfer of some 19 players were properly done.

All this on top of the investigation into the Neymar transfer too.

Any idea which players in question might have caused them to break the rules? According to the article, the only ways to get an international youth transfer correctly are:
  • the player's parents have moved country for their own, non-related reasons;
  • the move takes place within the European Union if a player is aged between 16 and 18;
  • or the player's home is less than 50 kilometres from the national border being crossed.
Going off that, I'd have to guess that maybe the breach comes from signing a non EU youth player or they are under the age of 16? Newcastle signed a 16 year old kid in July from France so presumably that is fine given both are part of the EU.

Don't believe the Halilovic transfer is one in question. From what ive read both his and Ter Stegen deals will go through.

From what I've read, we're being singled out for things that other clubs do as well. Apparently most of the kids are youngsters who've come in through Eto'o's foundation.

Not really sure if FIFA's doing the right thing here. These kids and their parents obviously want to go and African kids have been shipped around illegally by dodgy agents all over Europe for more than 25 years already, put in miserable housing conditions and what not. Maybe FIFA has good reason though, would need to understand a bit better what's behind it.

But this is probably all politics anyway. Why us and why now? Quite likely this is FIFA scaring everyone by targeting one of the big clubs and things will get "solved".

From the Soccernet article it names a few - South Korea's Lee Seung Woo, Paik Seung-Ho and Jang Gyeolhee, Theo Chendri of France, Nigerian-Dutchman Bobby Adekanye and Patrice Sousia of Cameroon.

Why not now? The rules are in place to protect minors from exploitation by both agents and family members. Just because it's been happening doesn't mean it should keep being overlooked.

This and the Neymar scandal, could it be that just maybe, Barcelona have been doing the dodgy and have finally been caught out on it?

With why now I meant why is FIFA acting now for transfers that happened some time ago already and were obviously known to everyone. That means it was initially overlooked, and suddenly it isn't. They Neymar story may have made a few people unhappy possibly, but that should be irrelevant to this.

As for protecting minors, attacking Barcelona is going to do absolutely 0. You know that too. Barcelona and other professional clubs with a modern youth system give these kids proper housing and an education while supporting them financially. It's not those kids that need protection. Those South Korean kids are living the dream.

Why is it ok for Eden Hazard to move to Lille when he's 13 but not for those kids. Because they're not from the EU? What does that have to do with protecting minors?

The ones that need protection are the ones who are lured by dodgy opportunists in Africa, get off a boat in Marseille, get put in a minibus and end up in some town in Belgium or France where they share a room with 6 other scared kids whose family's honour and future depends on them succeeding. And even then, how should they be protected?

If anyone needs to be dealt with, it's those dodgy guys who ship around kids as if they were goods.

Hazard grew up in Tuize, Belgium. Lille (France) to Tuize is literally an hour by train, it is 90 odd kms away from his family home.

It's exactly for kids outside the EU. Exploitation doesn't just happen in poor African countries. They are blanket rules to stop any loopholes.

How are those kids at Barcelona being exploited? They are living the dream and for them it's the chance of a lifetime. They are there because they and their family fully believe la masia is the best for their future.

It's not made just for Barcelona! Why are they the victims in this? Every other club in the EU has to sick with the same rules.

Why should Barcelona be allowed to sign underage kids when other clubs across Europe cant?

You cant have one rule for one club just because they have more money than another.

Does Arsenal still send African kids to Beveren?
