No doubt some of you will find this discouraging

Sydney's unwillingness to use Olympic Park after the Olympics is a well documented case (ie NRL clubs are embarrassed to play out there and Sydney Swans just dont play there)

What will become of London's venues remains to be seen? Wasnt West Ham Utd one stage discussed to take up occupancy of the main Olympic Stadium after it was rebuilt?

After the legal s**t fight its been put in the too hard basket for now. Tottenham and West Ham were bidding, but when the decision was made Tottenham took the relevant authority to court.

London lost out on the 2015 World Athletics champs to Beijing because of the uncertainity of what would happen to the stadium. Coe stepped in and UK Athletics made a bid for 2017 World Champs, that got up and basically the stadium will stay the same way for 5 more years. Read the post Olympics plans at

And the IAAF on 10th of August confirmed Coe and them worked closely for London to win 2017. Mind you they were only competing against Doha and after Qatar's dodgy world cup win and the fact September in Qatar is going to be about 40 degrees, helped London with their 4th bid within 20 years.

Diack hails success of London Olympic Games – IAAF Press Conference

President Diack saluted a marvellous London Games and hailed the packed 15 sessions of 80,000 spectators and the packed streets of supporters at the road events, as proof of the dramatic legacy the Olympics would leave for Britain, and not least the stadium which will host the 2017 IAAF World Championships.

Coe, who is also an IAAF Vice President, in turn thanked the President for his timely intervention with the world’s media which helped to turn the tide of opinion and secure the stadium’s future, the legacy of Athletics which London had promised the Olympic movement when they bid for the Games.

....

I assume you mean the main stadium ie Stadium Australia/ANZ Stadium.

It gets used for the big events, State of Origin, Rugby World Cup, Rugby Union Tests v NZ, SAF and Poms, NRL PF's and GF's, AFL finals etc.

NRL fans don't like it because its too big for their needs and not being a rectangle the views are s**t unless you sit in the expensive seats on the wings that move out closer to the pitch, but thats only about 3,000 seats x 2 wings = 6,000 seats.

The rest of Sydney Olympic Park gets used plenty and with the 2030 Mater plan is to have 16,000 people living within the Sydney Olympic Park Authority boundaries, 25,000 working and studying there it has plenty of long term potential.

3 or 4 years ago the Superdome which is renamed the ACER Arena was reported as the second biggest grossing indoor stadium in the world aprox $250mil, marginally ahead of the Lakers stadium in LA, the Forum, but only about 50% of what Madison Square Gardens in NY grossed in that year.
