He averages 23 in ODI and 9 wickets at 45 in Tests... there is worse.

Yea it was the media hype, they thought we had a Warne that could bat.
White is a great fielder, and one of the safest catches in the Australian team.

Because Ponting wasn't feeling charitable.
Williams won Australia a test match, White can't say the same

White is actually a good one day batsmen. Better than anyone else in domestic cricket at the moment. The commentators gave us the answer as to why he doesn't bowl more.
He's a leggie that doesn't turn them. His best ball is the straight one.
Jeez, even I can do that.
Why don't we pick a proper batsman in his place and throw the ball to Clarke more? Or is White picked because of our insane chase for an ODI all-rounder?

All beg to differe
All of these guys play quite different roles to White... they're all upper order batsman and are probably competing with Clarke and the Hussey's for a spot in the team.
They are all capable sloggers if need be and would offer a lot sounder batting technique then White
I reckon Ponting doesn't rate the guy. That much was pretty obvious in India. Sure, in the one dayers here, White is probably being selected as a specialist batsman. But in India he was clearly being selected as an allrounder and Ponting barely bowled him.
Fair enough, Ponting has to bowl the guys he think will win matches. But it's bit of a worry if the captain doesn't agree with the selectors. Does Ponting even want the guy in the team?
