First off, I will say they battled hard, they do that most weeks though but lack of talent and lack of polish has them falling short.
Players who can hold their heads high, Conti, Brennan, Sheerin, Dempsey, McClelland, and Yassir who kicked 3.

Ferguson, I am not impressed. They won't play finals and it's on his head. The game plan is just utter garbage. The foot skills are terrible. Bombers' second season and they have just waltzed past us. They flick it around with players always presenting with the easy lay-up pass. We just kick to contests more times than not. Bombers also have good marking targets.

They have 4 shorter but oversized players in Bannister, Prespakis, Tieney, and Scott who are deceptively quick and also just smash through our tackles.

Kate Sheahan as head of football, has got it wrong and our recruiters have had enough time to mold this team. Too many players who are just slow, and mechanical in the way they run, and kick the ball compared to Essendon which has quick players, and good ball users.

Also, we have too many tiny players in that backline who get easily pushed off the ball. You have Lynch (suspended), Dempsey, and Caitlan Cox, with Cox being an average player.

Then you have Grace Egan I don't use the word useless often but I can't avoid it when it comes to her. No second efforts, super slow, and handballs wildly mostly to the opposition. How Ferguson or Hampson haven't addressed this issue is beyond me.

If we are serious about where this football club is going from 2024 onwards. Ryan Ferguson must go and so should Sheahan

They’re a cut above us , several players can mark the ball , they move it well and kick for goal well too

a few positives , sheErin is a gun , woods is on the improve , Laura Mc played best game of year in f50 and was robbed of a mark , millzy is really stepping up
we def tried to use quick hands and at times looked best we had all year , a coulpe of great goals . Crying shame we haven’t had Ellie Mc available it’s cost us this year , lacking that class in the midfield to help mon , Greg and hosko have gone backwards

Seymour down back was a good move. Kelly is a chunky body on the field more.

As far as chunky built players we do we have greiser.
Sherrin got into the game.

Emac out for a lot of the season.
Brennan needs to be kicking goals regularly. She can Mark and kick long.

Laura Mc looked pretty effective as a key forward , too bloody slow in defence , agreed good idea Seymour to def as Kelly and woods are good in the ruck ,, to go forwards we need to retire the hoskings and get into the side some mids with wheels , a few Dempsey types x 3-4

Think we need to shuffle magnets in short term and see if players can do different things.

Dempsey is having a terrific season on the wing but perhaps move her to HB as a distributor. Get Sheerin into the guts and move Greg out to the forward line are things I would try. Seymour is important in ruck but maybe she could play as the intercept defender? We have nothing to lose and the season is basically gone anyway.

There
Is there any benefit from having our own Vflw team again?
There will always be a benefit, it's just whether having a whole other infrastructure is seen as outweighing those benefits. With PuntRoad re-develop looming for the years that it did, I can understand the attraction of an alignment in the meantime, with it being just one of many considerations.

Trade or draft? To trade in players like that is difficult with the tier system in place. As good as Egan is at getting the ball, she is killing us around stoppages with her handball ball use, and especially kicking going forward. It's like she's a mole for oppositions and coaxed into kicking to them. Hoskings are no worse than that at this stage.

I'd play Seymour at CHF or FF. She can mark well, is good below her knees, competes like there is no tomorrow. These things have to be for a block of games though, with specialist training given.

Sheerin's distribution is actually a bit slow by hand, hence why she gets caught a bit - missed last nights game so it's not based on it.

The only reason hosko are no worse is they can’t win the ball, 5-6p a week about norm and all under a tonne of pressure. Unfortunately with Greg’s the more she gets it the more damage she does. There must be better players avail , good lord the amo comp has hundreds playing ,,that said Caruso looked all at sea , 1p and she was lucky to get that ,, and she was a stand out at vflw

Don’t mind that idea of sheerin to midfield , she’s such a find

I dont see it , port melb should be fine , much rather club use those funds elsewhere

That's interesting with Caruso - as I mentioned have not seen the game yet. Caruso fits the bill of what you are proposing though and maybe the gap is bigger than we realise. Just the one game is a poor sample size though.

These are SHosking's season and career stats:

I’ve always had a theory that average players are pretty well finished by 28 ,,,,don’t think the hoskos are an exception to my theory

Thanks (I think), I finished at 46 :tearsofjoy:

I think it has to be factored in the roles she has had to play - she runs with, she gives cover to Conti, she physically hurts and intimidates the opposition as fairly as she can albeit reckless at times. In part that is due to here limited skill set, but at least you know what you get with her. We haven't had much like that before.

If we as a Club were fully fit, she might struggle to be in the best 21 - however she comes in for the roles she plays more often than not. Egan gets it but gives it back, Hosking gets it half as much, uses it better and has intimidated the oppo along the way and that has an impact through the game, as mentioned by Prespakis as half time. Probs still play Egan before her, but geez it's close on a quid pro quo basis.

SHosking is on the slide, no doubt, and she is coming back from repeat injury, lots of pressure to play. She gets another pre-season in my world

since you haven't watched the game, just gonna mention that caruso was played as a fwd pocket essentially i think

whereas when she was one of the best on ground for port melbourne in the GF i think she played in defence?

She was pretty much everywhere. Mid, half back, half fwd - was devestating at times in that league just behind the contested ball and getting intercepts.
