Essendon v West Coast, Etihad 4.40pm

I kinda had a feeling the Eagles were going to be stiffed out of a close finish by the Victorian umps from the moment in the last qtr when they called that kick out of play as deliberate - even though it went for some 20 metres. That followed by not paying an obvious throw, in front of an umpire, in the Eagles forward 50 and then that push in the back. This certainly isn't a win worth celebrating and the AFL wonders why attendance is falling...

Losing Watson with injury has been a blessing in disguise for his development. Bit like when we lost Gardiner years ago to a long term injury and it let a young guy called Cox get his chance as the main man in that role.

Maybe. I think his Watson's absence has had more impact on Myers who is becoming an excellent inside midfielder with his size and strength. For mine and most Essendon supporters knew Heppell had it in him it was just a matter of him getting the opportunity.

It really sucks and the umpiring REALLY didn't help but Essendon had more legs and more spread in that last quarter and a half and leveraged the momentum shift for all it was wroth. Thanks for the 6 day break AFL.

Well played Essendon.
Apart from the cheating maggot umpire you did well to come back and win the game.

It was working well when you were 34 points up. You can't fall back on that one.
Not really, bombers had poor disposal, once they got their mojo with respect to that we were always going to be caught on the hop.

For those blaming the umpiring (yes, it was bad and inconsistent but what's new?) - a side kicking only 3 goals in the entire second half just can't expect to win.

Eagles fans

Did you start following the AFL this week? Would suggest you've had a good run at the Eagles.

No, started following the AFL in 1991. Had the fun of seeing the eagles being (as admitted by the AFL) being the team that the umpires made the most mistakes against in every single round of the on year in the 90's. (they only publically reported it once from memory)
Statistically a 1 in approx 3094800000000000000000000000000 chance of being random. As an eagles supporter in the 90s, the 4th quarter free kicks paid to us on the half back flank were a predictable weekly event as they tried to make the free kick count seem unbiased. It was like clockwork.

We had a good run a few years back with ducking, but that was a tactic that was being rewarded at the time and unfortunately some eagles players made use of it. We also had a bizzare final against Sydney where everything went our way, like the AFL told the umpires the wrong team to support. Thats an exception rather than the norm and the umpires seem to have a habit of making game changing 50/50 decisions that MATTER that go against us and our club never seems to say a word (who knows what happens behind closed doors). The umpire psychology seems to be that they can call it against us or make an example of us and not feel any wrath coming at them and there is nobody to blame but our administration.

Would suggest you are being shortsighted and should look back further.

That being said, not that fussed about the loss as we weren't going to win a premiership. But the club can't let it keep happening.

For your clubs sake, i wish that the current administration is sacked as a whole (from little to hird) so that the players can start again. Feel sorry for them.

Good win for you and not your fault the umpires called it the way that they did.

how do you cough up a 34 point lead like that?

out of the 8 with good reason.

Yes. With fair umpiring, a different result.

If fair umpiring is making correct decisions and not missing obvious free kicks. I wouldn't mind giving West Coast a few of their missed frees in-between the arcs in return for some free kicks to Winderlich/Goddard for being tackled in the marking contest.

Haha sure mate. Bullshit.

"If we'd kicked more goals, or the ball bounced better, different result"

Really, so you support that deliberate out of bounds? Or the non free kick to Shuey that was so obvious even the victorian commentators were bemused, or the call against Hill that ruled out any chance?

Look at it logically. Sometimes you win when you don't deserve to. Sometimes you lose when you don't deserve to.

For the record, WCE didn't deserve to win today, but your comments are also a joke.

* off, you think you got none that were wrong?

Sour grapes. Simple.

* me, you were 34 points up but you blame the umps for losing. Pathetic

How about that push in the back on Hocking that everyone but the umpire thought was a free kick?
Certainly was a free kick. All we're saying is that a lot more of those calls went against us than for us. 50/50 calls should be given 50/50 to each team, not 90/10.
