Why even bother playing Porplyzia? The club and so many of our fans are stuck in 2009. He's almost 30, slow and can't tackle. Why wouldn't we use this opportunity to get a game into Grigg who has shown good form in recent weeks at SANFL level? We'd lose absolutely nothing in the short term and get another game into a young player.

Is it because he's a strong big bodied player that matches up against the Hawks? best I can come up with....I would expect him to start.

I reckon (hope) that Porps in is due to us losing one experienced player in DMac and not wanting bring in a less experienced player against a fairly experienced Hawthorn. Porps is better than Reilly IMO if the selectors are thinking this way.

I am also tending to think M Crouch is the guy who comes in if Thommo does not get in. They play a similar role. I would be surprised if Thommo plays.

They dont' want to bring in two relatively inexperienced players this week and are hiding the fact that Thommo is not gonna play....

Matty c not back in? ******* boo.
Has to be the role concept. Can't play the same roles as dmac or Porps.
Very dissapointed.
Jeeze we aren't very good at using our imagination, surely, patty could go to the wing and m crouch could play the guts. Or something like that.

Strange inclusion. Our selectors have gotten it right most of the year however they've also come up with some weird moves. Id say Rutten is still in due to Ceglar and Big Boy playing however wouldn't be shocked if LT came in. If both dont play our defence looks undersized.

Porps was ok in the Showdown but I dont see merit in him being dropped one week in the next. Better him than a young player getting that treatment. ......... again.

I'm struggling to see how Porps can play the same role as Mackay, surely there's more to it than a simple straight swap.

What I'm really disappointed in is us using Porps when he's likely to be delisted at year's end. We shouldn't be wasting these opportunities that come up once in a while due to injuries on aging fringe players. Surely whatever marginal benefit there is to playing Porps over Crouch isn't worth Crouch missing out on the experience of playing big games.

Yep I think you're probably right. It's far from the worst selection we've ever made. Porps smashed it against Port, and was actually sticking his tackles for the first time in years. He's not a bad option as sub for this particular game.

It will be a real confidence booster for the team if we can knock this hawks off this week. I don't think Porps will let us down.

Nichols, McInerney and Chamberlain when they found out they'd all be umpiring the Adelaide game this weekend

Do we? since when, I am certain no one was cheering last season or was I asleep at the wheel and it was rated the best season ever? Oh so Neil can ask for his job back then? I was cheering that mediocre showdown performance, were you? Oh I have another......Adelaide Oval is such a mediocre place to watch footy, I mean 50,000 fans watching us beat Collingwood, North Melbourne and Port Adelaide, how mediocre. Lets all celebrate the perceived mediocrity!

jason porplizia - in

says it all.

Rewarding good form from the showdown perhaps? most likely will be Sub. Is it the right decision, long term? perhaps not, short term against the hawks? Yes, if we win!

Awesome, we have this belief again we are a premiership team again.

We are not a premiership team, just like Trigg is not a good CEO or phil harper is not a smart football operator.

Another year, another bullshit reason why we wont achieve a single thing.

Porps was great in the wet in the Port game. Dmac injured.

"...David Mackay, who will miss the sold-out clash with the Hawks because of a minor hamstring complaint.."

Who really cares? Our 22nd player wasn't X.

It does seem almost like a trust issue with Porps and big games. They trust Porps won't go into his shell in the big games like Port and Hawthorn, maybe don't think Crouch or Grigg can handle the heat.

And that attitude is why we have an issue with players wilting in big games.

Back them in, don't shield them from it.

Lyons gets shafted - again.
