We were in Montville on the holidays and went in to their shop. Spent about $100 on bits n pieces including Zombie Dice which I couldn't get anywhere in Brisbane.

Tons of kids/educational games too.

www.spieledeluxe.com.au is a new start-up by my partner in Melbourne. The inventory is still growing (daily it seems) and has some gamer staples, but really intending to bringing products that are not available elsewhere in Australia. There's a good mix of Euros, AT and novelties.

Thanks for the feedback, footy people.
My partner has done a price review, things like Resistance etc were a bit above the curve. Spieledeluxe is currently offering Free shipping on all orders $50+ anywhere in Australia also.

Mostly just Fantasy Flight Games titles, but some others too. Free shipping and they can have some handy prices.
Book Depository don't have a "games" category so I had to find a catalog that someone made on BoardGameGeek. What a pain.

Brisbane

Visited Presents of Mind today - http://presentsofmind.com.au/ - They have a smallish selection but it includes all the classic games like Catan and expansions plus things like Tsuro, Rush Hour etc, all the usual plus nerdy and educational gifts. They have a good section at the back for young kids too. Only went in to get a game to play with my 4 year old and spent $220 (including Suburbia at $90). H10 got a laser pointer in return for promising to wash my car and not crash planes with it.

Also visited Good Games - http://www.goodgames.com.au/stores/qld/brisbane.html - Good selection of games including a full stand of X-Wing miniatures. Most of the very large shop is taken up by gaming tables. The odour of a couple of dozen unwashed Magic: The Gathering players is something that will stick with me (in my clothes) for a long time. The semi-autistic 30-something guy complaining to the girl behind the counter about being assigned the same opponent twice seemed to be enjoying himself. Loudly. In my ear. While I was entering my PIN to complete my purchase. Trying not to make eye-contact - which was pretty easy - we hurried out.

Here's a handy little link for comparing prices:

http://georgina.org/boardgames/

TLDR: Advent, Book Depository, Games Empire, Milsims, ozgameshop, or Pinnacle nearly always have the best prices.

If you're buying at the others you're probably paying a fair bit more than you have to be.
Blue Dragon link seems to point to an empty domain at Crazy Domains.

This is great because up to this point it is almost word for word my experience with the two Good Games stores I've been into.

Really good range though.

Yeah this guy is just shouting around me while the poor girl is swiping my card etc. Just completely oblivious to the idea that there was anyone in the vicinity who would be interested in anything but his annoyance at the opponent he'd drawn. I had wanted to ask a couple of questions (about good co-op games for kids as I'm sick of the dummy spitting when anyone but me loses) but I didn't get a word in.

Good selection - tons of stuff.

If they have it in stock, great, not bad price. They usually don't have it in stock (well what I want to buy) and are far too vague on when things are coming in. I got twiddled along for months for a copy of Descent 2.0. In the end I bought it from Amazon. They are decent for war / hobby games, some euros and crap that sells to people trying to buy a game who don't know what to buy (monopoly, poker, chess sets etc). Really not a fan of the staff.
Looks like this link is dead. The following seems to work though: http://www.mindgames.net.au/

Have made a few purchases recently from varied sources so heres my reviews.

Ebay - supanews.books
http://stores.ebay.com.au/Supanews-Australia?_trksid=p2047675.l2563
Pathfinder - $52.39

This was a referal link from BGG due to the price being so low (think its been fixed now) but the result was seamless. Posted the next day and recieved constant email updates along the way. Arrvied very well packed and in perfect condition.
Its a pain to search their store to find the games amongst all the books but was well worth it to save between $20-$30 on this one alone :)
Store no longer exists - you put them out of business.

Spent ages trying to use Aussie stores, in the end was over 20% cheaper to buy from amazon.com :(
Picked up Istanbul, 7 Wonders, Lords of Waterdeep XP and Rampage.

The retail model in Australia, everything from rent, labour costs, insurance, freight, customs etc has a lot of adjustment to make now that we're in a global retailing world. Small scale local retailers can't compete on price with the likes of Amazon.

If you feel bad about local retailers, you should shop with them.

I buy anywhere that I use the store / browse etc, particularly Good Games and Mindgames in Melbourne. I was spending a few hundred bucks and saved nearly 100. Hard to say no to that no matter your principles.

I backed a Kickstarter that's netting me one large or two medium 15mm ancient armies, done by West Wind. I get the survey soon, then I have to decide which I want of Macedonia, Roman Republic, Carthage, 240BC Spain, Gallic, Thrace, Early and Late Persian, Early and Late Greek, Campanian, Etruscan, Seleucid, Phyrric, Roman Empire, Skythian, or Indian.

Such choices, so many.
