Good news everybody. This is exactly what's happening, our old mate Hame is going to Europe for 12 months (or tapped on the shoulder now that gill isn't head of the afl).
Probably why Gil delayed his departure for so long

guess you only read the headline, and not the article.

Gillon McLachlan won’t be the only member of the family enjoying a European summer next year with his brother Hamish set to take a sabbatical from Channel 7.

Like his older sibling, Hamish hasn’t been able to enjoy Europe at its finest because of his commitments with Seven as an AFL host and commentator.

He has also been one of the faces of the Olympic Games for the network but with them giving up the rights to Paris next year, a golden opportunity has arisen in 2024 to fulfil a lifelong dream of living overseas.
Hamish McLachlan and his family will be based in France for 12 months with his three young children attending an international school. His eldest daughter will be in the final year of primary school which is why the timing is perfect.

Channel 7 boss Lewis Martin has been the No.1 supporter of the move once it was floated by McLachlan who will still fly back to Australia for hit-run missions for the network.

He will be in Melbourne for the start of the AFL season and return for the finals while also hosting the Magic Millions racing carnival from the Gold Coast in January.

Pretty sure old mate wrote his own press release here.

not sure why this article is getting another run, other that alleging that Hamish is "popular". "huge blow to the network"?! as if!

I just read it and thought WTF - popular??

one thing that was disappointing I learnt from the article is we’re still stuck with him next year, will be there for the first few rounds then back for Brownlow and GF. Hopefully that will be the last of him but with Kerry Stokes and his great ’eye for talent’ I’m not confident
