Pretty sure the biggest Vic attendance was around 66k in 96. Could definitely push that id say.

Posted this on the Hawks board

Pound for pound the Swans draw larger crowds in Melbourne than North, W Bulldogs and perhaps St Kilda...

From afltables.com

Highest Home & Away Crowds
72130 Hawthorn v Sydney Waverley Park R22,1999
69237 Essendon v Sydney M.C.G. R21,1996
65306 Collingwood v Sydney M.C.G. R9,2013
63842 Collingwood v Sydney M.C.G. R21,2007
62866 Essendon v Sydney M.C.G. R11,1998
57894 Collingwood v Sydney M.C.G. R7,1998
54725 Hawthorn v Sydney M.C.G. R7,2013
54400 Collingwood v Sydney M.C.G. R21,2009
52614 Melbourne v Sydney M.C.G. R21,1998
50324 Essendon v Sydney M.C.G. R3,1999
49529 Hawthorn v Sydney M.C.G. R15,2008
48398 Hawthorn v Sydney M.C.G. R12, 2007

Early to Mid 60000's would be massive

Hawks v Swans could be responsible for 5 of the Swans top 15 crowds in Victoria.

A nice rivalry building, the Swans and Hawks have crossed paths in 6 of the last 27 seasons (1987, 1996, 2001, 2011, 2012 (stomach turn), 2013 and probably 2014 you'd imagine?)

Where is your proof that the draw is, in fact, rigged?
You don't have any.
You call the Swans 'cheats', the draw is 'rigged' then complain about name calling. LOLZ

If, as you say, the competition is a 'prescribed joke' then that would hold true regardless of who won it. Unless of course you are going to argue that there is more than one comp, that strangely plays for the same prize.
Or in your bizarre world you believe that some of the comp (AKA Swans) is manufactured and the rest (AKA your team) is a perfectly fair and natural phenomenon. LOLZ

Your attacks on the Swans are no different to the rubbish we hear every day. Same same nonsense dressed up like it is some well thought out analysis.
Spare us the faux outrage, you ain't foolin' anyone, you jelly.

Right so.....Hawks, Freo, Swans & Cats top 4 last year.

Hawks play all 3 twice
Freo plays Hawks & Cats 2X
Cats play Hawks & Freo 2x
Swans only play Hawks 2x With all their meetings (apart from this week) in Sydney against all top 4 sides!

From the above alone I'm sure even you can discern a distinct discrepancy there Champ....On top of which you played them all in Sydney & with the added advantage of meeting the Cats playing their third game in 19 days with 2x 6day breaks in the time you played just once....The game against the Hawks also saw them at the end of a 3x6day run...But NO, NO, NO....We'll just put all this down to co-incidence then shall we???...Also, when was the last time you played Freo in W/A????

Add to this that Joke of an MRP decision not to cite the Franklin bump which was an exact replica of the one he was suspended for the Finals vs the Swans last year & for which he copped 2x 2 week suspensions in the past 3 seasons against Cousins & Ackermanis....The only difference this time being: HE was wearing a SWANS jumper.....If he copped his fair whack then no games against Port & Richmond & there's 2 losses right there sport with the missing Tippett.....If you really think this over-sight was not AFL administered then you truly are naïve in the extreme dear fellow!

This also follows the pattern of the 2012 Finals series where all the rights earnt by the top side were summarily stripped away on a whim to the distinct & only advantage of the Swans.....There was many other possibilities on hand, yet that was the path for which the AFL took with the happy co-incidental excuse being that ANZ was booked out!.....But no, we'll just jettison over a century of tradition in order to facilitate the AFL's desires & agendas....Not only did you get the extra days rest which proved the difference at the end of that match, you also copped a Preliminary opposition off a 6 day break, with Hawthorn facing a fresher younger Adelaide side with an added 2 day advantaged 8 day break.....Absolute massive advantage of the easiest path ever delivered over to a team in Finals history & all to the 3rd placed Swans with the convenient excuse of a supposed lack of fore-sight...Spare me.

Then there's the decision to allow Buddy's move to Sydney which smacked of an utter farce in the face of a supposed equalisation policy on behalf of the AFL....As if this wasn't bad enough, they then have the temerity to offer pick 18 in the draft as compensation for the no 1 forward in the league, getting a 9 year contract & on the biggest money ever paid to a player.....Ignoring their own policy of weighting compensation base on size of contract & player rating!!!!....Are you starting to see a pattern of behaviour here yet sport on behalf of the AFL admin????

Your Draw is a joke, your club is an AFL administered synthetic phoney. Which, without AFL intervention into the comp by way of fixed schedules weighted heavily in your advantage & Tribunal/MRP interventions/ Look-Aways, would not be on top of the ladder today, would not be 2012 Premiers nor 2005 Premiers!....Get it through your heads.

In the final 3 weeks prior to the finals all top 4 teams from last season play against each other with the exclusive exception of Sydney, Who finish against S.Kilda, Footscray & Richmond....Yet another happy co-incidence that.

Time to open your eyes to the truth there sport & stop deluding yourself & that goes for all of your Sydney colleagues also....This is no Faux outrage champ....My team has been denied a Premiership on the back of AFL Administered corruption/Cheating & stripped of our best player without any adequate compensation thereof also on the back of AFL administered corruption....Your draw by comparison with all the other top 4 sides is an utter joke!...There is a clear & distinct pattern here & only one-eyed Sydneyite fools are blinded to it!

Jack Gunston, Luke Breust and Isaac Smith are the danger players for the Hawks and for Sydney Josh Kennedy, Lance Franklin and Luke Parker are the dangerous players for the Swans. I can't see us stopping all of Jack, Kennedy, Parker, McVeigh and co, but if we can deny them the footy then we can certainly limit their influence to a degree. If we start poorly like in Round 8 then we will lose.

You are actually one sane poster. Equally if we start like we did 2011 semi or 2013 at mcg we probably lose.

But I am not actually quite so sure. The recent history between these two teams seems to have spurts for both teams where they kick 6 in 8 goals and them the other side does it. Even in the qualifying final last year we dominated the second quarter and had we kicked straight may have put enough scoreboard pressure on to make a game of it.

I am increasingly of the view that we have to have 5-8 more scoring shots to win. If gunston kicks four straight Tippett or buddy are going. To have to kick 5-3 or so to match it. This is why it is interesting - breast kicks a lot of goals from the goal square running into an open goal and guns ton is eighty per cent from inside forty regardless of the angle. We are going to have to find some cheap goals as well I think.

You fixture junkies really need to chill.

In 2011 we came 7th.
In 2012 we played the other top 7 sides 9 times
Of those 9 times we played at home twice.
So we only played 2 out of 9 in our Premiership year or 22% of them with home advantage

In 2012 we came 1st
In 2013 we played the other top 7 sides 11 times
Of those 11 times we played at home 4 times.
So we only played 4 out of 11 at home as reigning Premiers. Or 36% of them with home advantage

So this year we get some good teams at home. Whoopty do. Did you really expect the swings and roundabouts of footy to result in us playing the top teams away every year?

So he makes 6 valid points about your advantages and you simply dispute 1.

And you are a liar. In 2012 you played Freo (round 2), North (round 4), Adelaide (round 5), Geelong (round 13), Hawthorn (round 22).

5 GAMES AGAINST THE TOP 8 AT HOME NOT 2 LIAR.

And thats just the H&A season.

I wouldn't believe a word this guy says, straight out liar.

Whinging is funny for a while, but then it becomes boring. What has happened to you lot? Or have you lot always been a pack of sooks?

Ima take ALWAYS for $100 please Skipper

Did you guys like us before 2012 :(

NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drunk:

There. See. I can shout and look like an idiot too.

Nice try. But Freo didn't make the 8 in 2011. Nor did North. Nor did Adel. I only counted games against the top 8 from the previous year. *golf clap*

It's you numpties, half way through a season trying to play fixture catch up that have no clue.

I won't stoop to your level and call you a liar. To be a liar you would have to actually know something to be untrue. And clearly you know nothing.

Swannies fans spend more time talking about opposition supporters than their own team, such a desperate bunch.

Buddy to have massive game, Swannies by 4 goals.

It's easy to be high & mighty & free & eazy when your team has the magistrate on their side champ!....Can the faux condescension, it betrays the arrogance of a team with the arbitrator on its side....The AFL is suppose to guarantee a fair & even comp, not be invested in a teams success to the detriment of all other 17 teams & at the cost of the game's Integrity....That is the current state-of-affairs so far as the AFL's association with the Sydney Swans is concerned!

I'd like to bring up one thing I mentioned before:
When the draw is made it is made from the previous year. Last year had Carlton and Richmond were playing finals. If the finals were this weak, North and Essendon would have taken their place, with Port being higher. I don't think anyone predicted the Tigers and Blues would drop off so bad and Port would be up so high. Crows finished 2nd at the end of the H/A in 2012 and 3rd overall. They were considered, in the making of the draw a tough side. They didn't end up playing finals in 2013 so they weren't the "tough match" they were expected to be. You can't reliably pick where a team will be the following year. Last week, Sydney only would have to play 2 top 8 sides (Hawks and Port), this week we will play 3 because of Essendon now being in the 8. It could have so happened the run home you have could've been teams all in the bottom 8 if they fell apart this year.

For those who are just scrolling You can't really comment on the draw since it is made from the previous year. I would love an even draw. Really would. But without 20-22 clubs or shorter seasons, it won't happen. And if you ask me, that's good. You wanna be a great club, then play and win in times of hardship. I think the AFL agree with me in this mindset. They'd rather 18 clubs win 1 flag each in 18 years than 3 clubs winning 6 each in 18 years. Clubs that do well in say 2015, should get a bit of a harder draw in 2016 for equalisation and to see if they really are the best club. But it's all based on the previous year.

I heard a theory where they'd make a 18 round fixture first, everyone plays everyone once, have a bye then rounds 19-23 are based on your ladder position in round 18. But that'd be hell to organise.

Bringing it back to the game itself which is more important:
Gonna be a great game regardless of the result. Great midfields, quality forwards and going to be a great game. Expecting Reid to be the big forward with Franklin and Tippet getting all the attention.

Stop the crying. You lost a GF at your home ground with the umpires on your side. Time to deal with it.

You reckon?

Call it gut feeling or hunch or WETF but I have had this in my mind all week with the conjecture over Tippett's Fitness.
Membrey has been great this year in the 2's and been stiff not debut already. This is how AFL clubs roll with last minute outs and it is a perfect opportunity regardless of the stature of the game for Membrey to debut. My ample gut is rarely wrong on matters AFL and as a matter of interest the last 2 weeks has been saying the Hawks will win by about 3 goals
but this week I have a different winner every half hour.
