DJ would have won the Norm Smith had it been in todays times. 5 Goals in the last quarter when the game is on the line. Out of this world. 5 Second half goals the next year by golly god that guy was clutch.

What do you think? It's pretty bloody hard. Isaac Smith 32 possessions and 3 goals in 2022 was exceptional too.

Im gonna be Biased to the non vic sides...

Materas efforts on a wing in that 1992 grand final was crazy. 6 or 7 goals on a wing is nuts.

Darren Jarmans efforts in 1997 was great too. 6 goals all up including 5 goals in the final quarter.

Jarmans 5 goals in 1998 vs North is impressive too.

He got 5 but yeah. For a winger it's pretty damn impressive.

He was blistering.

Actually Matera was insanely good. I remember he went forward against Brisbane I think it was in 1995. He kicked 5 goals in the last quarter, finishing with 6. A Jarman like performance. Played Full Forward against the Bombers in 1998 and booted 7 goals. 7 out of 11.

P Matera was an insanely great talent.

Luke Shuey's 34 disposal, 19 contested possession, 3 goals + assists, 8 score involvement, 9 clearance, 8 tackle, 663 metres gained, max Coaches Votes, Norm Smith winning destruction of Scott Pendlebury in the 2018 decider was a work of art in which Collingwood's least successful of its last 3 captains franked his record as one of Fadge 's top 10 finals performers of this century, lol.

Get it right.

Top 6. With only opinion separating those players.

Are you sure Shuey played on Pendlebury?

I am surprised none of the tigers haven't mentioned Dustin Martin? LoL

Tagging people who hadn't posted in a thread to bait them, and then tagging a sycophant to back you up isn't the big win you think it is.

Also considering what happened last September it is a bit rich to ridicule Scott Pendlebury for his performance in 2018 (and they didn't even play on each other that day either).

How nice to see you turn into a responsible poster FP. :)

Pendlebury was captain of the team and a midfielder who specialises in collecting cheap rock in the rear half in finals. If he had anything about him I would have thought he stops an otherwise no more than decent, zero All Australian opposition mid from doing that sort of damage and tearing his team to shreds in a tight Grand Final that Pendlebury's Collingwood lost.

Was just interested in what Fadge might have to say about that. You know, the person who claims that by watching the odd game once on TV, he is able to rate footballers better than Champion Data.

You really have no *n idea hey? It was quite funny at first but you just look like a moron now

Why would we? None of Dustin's individual performances are as good as Gaz Sr in 1989.

Collectively however, his three GFs present him as pretty much the best grand final performer in the history of the VFL/AFL.

Interestingly the best three performances that I saw were all in losing teams.
Obviously Ablett 89 is the best.
But 85 Derm kicking 8 goals and punching about 8 different bombers, whilst playing much of the game on one of the all time champs in Terry Daniher, in a side that lost by 90 points or whatever it was, was a tour de force.
And lastly, a call out to the great man himself M Rioli in 82, making it three consecutive best on grounds in a grand final. Amazing player. Maybe I am letting sentiment override logic with this last one, but WGAF?

Billy Barrot in 1969 dominating the midfield for 3 quarters then moving to Full Forward in the 4th to slot 3 of the only 4 majors for the term in a 12 goal v 8 goal game after the Tigers had trailed at 3/4 time.

The go ahead goal is legendary.

Not sure it went down exactly that way, according to your website he was getting beaten in the centre, moved to FF in the 2nd quarter and sparked the Tiges, kicked 2 goals in that quarter plus that great torp in the last

Good story though, never understood how you'd think you could directly swap Barrot for dual Brownlow medallist Stewart but makes a bit more sense now, that GF performance plus his 8 goal romp late in the year at Princes Park

Don't believe everything you read on web sites. ;)

My memory of events that day probably a bit unreliable given I was 2 years old at the time.

Barrot was a noted big game player. Sadly suffered mental illness, may have been bi-polar or something of that order.

That's nearly 2 years older than I was

I liked the way he threw the ball up Ginnivan-style, before calmly slotting an epic torp on an apparently windy day, can never have too many guys like that

I don't know the backstory here - but you are coming across as a flog. Seems you are trying to bait people, maybe head off to the Bay.

Ablett 89 was unbelievable. We had come to expect the impossible from him but he got even better. I think 3 of his goals came off McGuiness, a really fine defender, but the others were on Chris MFing Langford, the permanent Victorian FB for most of the 1980's.

Geelong wasn't getting easy ball out of the centre, though, after Ratten was conked Ayres went into the midfield and ripped it up. Ablett could not be stopped, and the goals flowed like water.

I was out in the southern stand, about 12 rows back near the city end 50. I didn't see Brereton get felled but I did see Ayres put Ablett to sleep (for about 10 seconds). Not a nice man, God, but the best player ever to pull on a boot.

Nah we don't want him. **** tier trolling, we expect a higher standard.

First impressions can be so deceptive.

Shuey has the highest rated Grand Final performance since ratings began in 2012, and by some margin. So he is a legitimate entry to this thread, is he not?

As a side note, there does happen to be a back story here. You have on this thread confirmed by the person himself that Fadge rates Pendlebury one of the 6 best finals performers this century. So Shuey's destruction of the Collingwood midfield, which included Pendlebury, makes that performance by Luke Shuey even more meritorious, does it not? Either that or Fadge's ratings are just a little bit out....

But you know, it is interesting that a person whose only previous post on this thread was the one I have quoted below, should think that I am a flog for trying to bait people with a legit answer to the thread question...

Whilst I am being a flog though, and speaking of Grand Finals, how did thee enjoy the 2017 Preliminary Final and the 2019 Grand Final? ;)

Not only that, you watch the highlights back, Langford did absolutely nothing wrong in any of those contests either. His 8th goal (one of the greatest goals you'll ever see kicked with ridiculous nonchalance) had Langford literally draped all over him.

I guess Hawthorn figured Langford kept him to 9 (after moving onto him) and anyone else would have conceded more. Fair enough.

Martin is unquestionably one of the best big game players I've seen.

Wouldn't put him alongside Ablett (and there are very, very few that are), but those 3-4 seasons he was pretty awesome.
