Huddo's review after the loss to Box Hill... Hughy getting a bit of constructive criticism this week...

Hugh Goddard
Hugh was OK. He took eight marks in defence but just got caught off his man occasionally. This wasn’t because he was trying to play loose, but more a result of not defending quickly enough if there was a turnover up the field.

Review from the Werribee win...

Hugh Goddard
Hugh was our best defender. He played on Majak Daw and did a reasonable job, as well as taking seven marks himself. He held his own all day.

Must be doing something right to have a few kicked on you but still be considered the team's best defender.

Is it time for Hugh to debut?

From the great win against Port Melbourne at Port...

Hugh Goddard
Hugh played forward on the weekend. In the first quarter he laid two tackles which set the scene for us as a side, it was awesome. His marking was good and he just looks like he is going to crunch the pack every time he goes near it. He could have easily kicked five, but kicked inaccurately and finished with two. It’s exciting because he looked good down back and equally adept as a forward.

“Just because he is not playing AFL footy, that isn’t a big issue for the long-term outcome that we are after for Hugh, and that is to be a big, strong defender.” - AR on HG. Definitely a defender long term.

Huddo's review from the Footscray game...

Hugh Goddard
We ended up throwing Hugh down back after he imposed himself up forward with some strong tackles. A bit like Cam Shenton, he acquitted himself well regardless of where he played.

From the game in atrocious conditions at TBBO against Coburg

Hugh Goddard
Hugh was one of our best few. He took seven marks which was terrific in those conditions – the footy was like a cake of soap. He played the first three quarters in defence until we threw him forward in the last term.

Hugh to debut

Hugh Goddard will make his AFL debut this Sunday against Richmond, continuing St Kilda’s focus on promoting talented youth.

Goddard will be St Kilda’s 16th new player* and 10th AFL debutant since Alan Richardson took over at the beginning of 2014.

“He’s very excited as are Rohan Welsh, Lindsay Gilbee and me. We’ve all worked closely with him this year,” Frawley told SAINTS.com.au.

“He’s been very patient but as far as first-year players go, he’s been the consummate professional. He’s ticked every box and hasn’t missed a training session.

“His willingness to learn will hold him in good stead and he’s someone who Saints supporters will be really proud of.”

“Get along on Sunday evening to say you saw Hugh Goddard’s first game, because he will probably play 200 on his ear,” he said.

“He’s tough, unrelenting, courageous and ready. He’ll do well and some of the Richmond forwards will know he’s played his first game, that’s for sure.”
