Any news on post-season surgery for players? We have had a remarkable run in recent years and was wondering if anyone had any insight into this year?

No mention of Answerth here. I wonder if he played in the reserves over the weekend.

This may have been discussed elsewhere. Can we sign another player to cover Rayner if he is out for the season and if so who do we suppose may be the best option and by when shall we know?

I think we missed our chance to do it before the season starts and have to wait to the mid season draft.

NEALE TO UNDERGO SURGERY

The Brisbane Lions can confirm Lachie Neale is set for surgery to repair a syndesmosis injury.

The Brownlow medallist suffered the injury in the Lions’ 18-point win over Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

He will undergo surgery on Monday and is expected to miss up to eight weeks with the injury.

The Lions had already activated the injury substitute after Darcy Gardiner was injured and Lions General Manager of Football Danny Daly said Neale’s efforts in playing out the game after suffering the injury had inspired the entire Club.

“What Lachie did on the weekend for our football club was huge,’’ he said.

“That was an important game, we had already been forced to make an injury substitution and he stayed out there and battled on under duress and played a huge part in helping us get the win.

“This setback is unfortunate for Lachie, but he is the complete professional and we know that he will do everything in his power to get back as quickly as possible and we are confident he will play more great footy for us this year.

“This presents an opening now for someone and we are excited to see who can make the most of the opportunity.’’

Excuse my ignorance but can someone with an understanding of Lachie's injury explain what a syndemosis injury is and what is done in surgery to repair the injury? What is the prognosis with these injuries - do athletes normally make a full recovery?

Try Dr. Google, he generally has all the answers.

Jeez we have a lot of players with strapped shoulders at the moment - at least the following in our best 22: Berry, Danniher, Darcy, Answerth, Andrews...maybe others as well. Good to see that Linc was playing without his knee strapping on Saturday night.

Lyons having surgery on his OP - medicos must have been hoping it would settle with some post season rest but it obviously hasn't so hence the surgery. News report says he hopes to be back running by the end of December and he is setting himself for a big pre-season.
