Traded James Aish (2013-2015)

My ideal scenario:

James Aish gets forced to the Pre Season Draft:

1. Brisbane - Pick another future Tom Rockliff
2. Carlton - ...Pass
3. Gold Coast - James Aish

Enjoy your 70km trip down the highway Mr. Royalty :)

Cant see us getting a pick in the top 10 for him , maybe a late 1st round pick, if lucky.
When you compare what Polec and Yeo showed at their best to Aish we will be doing well to get a first round pick for him.
I could be totally ignorant to his abilities but I don't see a stand out player here, outside or inside.
Like I said earlier Leppa at some stage with Aish has to get an answer off him and play him in or out depending on what Aish is doing.
You would think if Leppa has not got confirmation by 5 rounds to go , he'll be in the 2's.
Thought he played alright last week all the same.
Still not worth 400/ year.
I'll post this in 2 weeks again , its the same shite

Is there any history of clubs ever picking a player who does not want to play for them...I think the PSD threat is really over-rated and at best it just causes the player involved some angst e.g. Luke Ball, but achieves little else and costs the original club a pick.

John McCarthy was looking to go to Richmond, not Port. Nick Stevens wanted Collingwood, not Carlton. Maguire was expected to go to Carlton, not Brisbane (not PSD). In general only bottom clubs get their players through the PSD, because there's just not the certainty there for other clubs. Most high ranking clubs do trades for their players for that reason, and the exceptions go through the ND, like Luke Ball - there's a difference between using pick 30 and pick 90-odd (the PSD equivalent). The PSD threat is what sees definitely discount trades go through (Longer, Mumford) but it's not the trump card that it's repeatedly and painfully played as here on BF.

I see Aish as being, possibly, a similar player to Woewoden at his best. I didn't think woewode deserved a Brownlow, but don't remember who the competition was back then. Earlier in the year I would have been stoked if he had signed, thought he would be a pretty handy player to have, now if he signs, well, ummm, arrrrrrrr, ok, I 'spose, if he goes, I won't be too worried by that.

James Aish may have played his last game as a Brisbane Lion as finger rules him out for 2015

JAMES Aish has almost certainly played his last game at Brisbane, out for the rest of the year with a finger tendon injury.

A specialist told Aish he needed surgery on his finger today, with the Liam Pickering-managed player set to leave the club at year’s end.

Brisbane is set to confirm the damage in its medical update this afternoon.

The Herald Sun reported earlier this year that Aish had met with Carlton chiefs on the Gold Coast, with the Blues still keen on the former SANFL midfielder.

Collingwood is hopeful of securing Adam Treloar and James Aish during AFL trade period

But Collingwood will attempt to use their first draft pick on Treloar, and would have to offer Brisbane a secondary selection, and possibly defender Paul Seedsman, for Aish.

Brisbane has already ruled out accepting a straight swap of Aish for Seedsman.

The Lions will adopt a hard-line stance at this year’s trade period and demand a first-round pick or gun forward for Aish, after losing five quality young players two various rivals two years ago.

Leigh involved with trade consultations this time around but I hope we don't go too hard though I do hope it improves somewhat
Can't foresee Leigh getting involved, to be honest.

There could be meetings when he has a say no ?

There could be, but that's a definite step back from an absolute "involved". :D

Board members aren't generally involved in the day to day running of a company or football club, though they definitely have influence and can lend their expertise or thoughts to particular projects.

Expect Leigh to throw an arm around Aish and tell him, just quietly, to pull his head in. 2 years into a career shouldnt give you the power to hold your employee over a barrel and demand a transfer.
Except he isn't demanding a transfer (they don't exist any more) or as far as we know holding anything over us, he just isn't prepared (apparently) to renew his two year contract.

Lions confident Martin will stay, resigned to losing Aish

"We've spoken to Pickers (manager Liam Pickering) and we've spoken to James and he still says he is making up his mind but obviously the longer it goes the more likely he is to leave," Swann said.

Despite the likelihood of Aish departing, Swann suggested the Lions will play hard ball on a possible trade for the 19-year-old who was taken with pick seven in the 2013 draft.

"It's just this really interesting trend in the game where you get a kid at pick 6-7, put two years in to them and they actually go backwards in value," he said.

"They really should be going forward in value because we have put the time and development into them.

"I'd like to think that if and when the time comes for him to choose a club that we'd get appropriate compensation and if not you'll have a bit of a haggle.

"The ability to trade future draft picks hopefully helps to get a deal done because if you can't do it this year maybe you can give us something for next year.

"We certainly won't sit there and accept a pick in the 20s because that's not fair and we won't do that.

"He's a good kid, he did finish fourth in the Rising Star last year so he's a good player, he's just been a bit unlucky this year.

"We'd certainly like to keep him but it doesn't look promising at this stage."

It's that time of year where I get to really pad out my posting figures...

I dont care if aish goes. But if he nominated collingwood i am going to be so pissed. Could of got there last year.
