Ideally I'd like to see Sigurdsson, Aquilani & Allen (or an Allen-like player) in with Adam & Spearing out. Neither are comfortable enough with close control and quick 1-touch passing to be successful in any system based on retaining possession. Spearing in particular had me tearing my hair out at times (particularly the FA cup final!).

Steve Clarke officially gone and reportedly interesting WBA as their new boss.

And do footballers ever learn?
Reds reserve striker Dani Pachedo tweeted "@glen-johnson good luck negrito!!!!"
Yep the same term Suarez used to Evra.

Pachedo says all in good humour, mate of Johnson's, used the word in its 'good' sense etc.

But.......

'Negrito' has been used as a term of endearment by Spanish speakers for hundreds of years. Just because a few small minded English journalists have decided that they know better than the millions of Hispanic and Latino people around the world how to interpret their own language, does not mean these people will ever stop using the word.

In this context it is not an offensive word, because Spanish speakers do not have anywhere near the same insecurities about race that English speaking countries do. It is used both on and off the field by Spanish speaking players on a regular basis , and has never caused offence until now because the UK media have decided it sounds a bit similar to a racially offensive English word and want to get up on their high horse and pass judgement on those cavemen from Spain and Latin America.

There are actual examples of racism occurring in the UK every day and these are the things the peanuts at the tabloids should be focussing their energies on, not some insignificant word that the majority of them don't even understand anyway.

We say Paki to describe Pakistani's over here (yes I know it is racist), you go to England and do that they'll throw you in jail.

It is a different culture, what is acceptable in Spanish speaking countries does not mean it will be acceptable in English speaking countries.

Granted, but Pacheco is a Spanish player currently in Spain on holiday tweeting to a friend who speaks Spanish and is in Poland. In this case it's really not the UK media's place to pass judgement, no matter how righteous and morally upstanding they think they might be, this isn't in their 'jurisdiction'. It's needlessly damaging to his reputation in England as the masses whos opinion consists of what's on the back page of the Mirror, the Sun or the Star will now tarnish this young man with the 'racist' tag.

What is needless is his use of the word.

We've had the Suareaz/Evra controversy, the Ferdinand(s)/Terry issue, the racism concerns regarding the Euro host countries and now he uses the term 'negrito' on a social media site to a black Englishman.

Surely he could just have applied a bit of common sense and referred to Johnson using another term.
A phrase which could not be misconstrued or be open to scrutiny, you know such as 'good luck friend'.

No one else has the right to get offended.

And if you read his other tweets, he says that Johnson is one of his good friends at the club. He has used 'negrito' in many other tweets as well. And good luck friend is exactly what he said.

Political correctness gone mad. So are we going to go to every supermarket and clothing store and remove the word 'negro' off the labels if they have multilingual translations on the back? This is why they should not capitulate to the press on this, it's a very slippery slope to an over sanitized society. This time it's this tweet, and if this gets a reaction then they'll pick up on something even more ludicrous next time.

The problem is that he didn't just say it to his mate, he told the whole world through the voyeuristic medium of social media. He did it either to intentionally offend some people, just to stir things up or he is just plain and simply dumb and completely lacking any sense of appropriateness.
