No Oppo Supporters Leak of sensitive information - AFL to lead investigation

So the well sense of humoured Cheney told his hilarious joke at breakfast with Benny, which Ben took seriously but weeks into the investigation the moron realises it was a joke. Yeh so the dogs... And Stratton are at fault for listening to someone who didn't change his tune until deep into the investigation. How dare they

The Talias clearly spoke before the game and perhaps tactics were mentioned but nothing of any substance according to the game's best investigators.

How would the investigator know, one phone was lost and the other had it's message deleted.

Because Caro says so.

Not sure why but she really rips into us whenever given the chance. Only team she goes harder on is Norf and Hird of course.

Always seems personal with her, wonder what Gordon did? Whatever we did to her, it must have been bad for her to side with the 'hated' Pickering.

You'd imagine Cheney will be getting a large bill from all the stakeholders who wasted their time on this investigation?

Surely?

That would be the logical path after this announcement?

Will this happen? - No, because there's no substance to the joke. Rug, broom, sweep - done.

Would they risk chasing Cheney? If threatened with a fine/suit he might then recant the "joke" story, and
admit that he was pressured to aid in a covered up, that he was forced to agree to make that claim.
Then all hell might break loose with the the real story coming out.

It's interesting comparing the Rucci and Wilson articles. Both are opinion pieces based on scant public information (but perhaps some confidential chats). Neither article particularly favours the Bulldogs. One suggests "business as usual" while the other calls out the AFL on its approach.

Wilson pretty much says "nothing to see here / Talia boys quite innocent (apart from that innocuous pre-game chat about tactics) / WB owe the footy world (and perhaps Michael Talia!) an apology / so does Cheney".

Rucci on the other hand is a little more curious - he smells a rat, asking why is it the AFL can't obtain the texts, why do the findings (arrived at behind closed doors) need to be negotiated (implying they will become some form of compromised justice) and saying "no-one should take issue with Beveridge and the Bulldogs demanding the AFL investigate the Talia chat". That's a long way from Wilson's perspective which attributes the "highly emotional" WB with a "savage reaction" (is that suggesting we weren't being entirely rational?)

There could be a bit more of this to play out yet, especially if other commentators decide to pick up the story and analyse the apparent weaknesses in what we understand to be the AFL findings.

It's telling that Wilson reports that the AFL tried to get the media release out on a Friday night "for minimum impact " which suggests the AFL is indeed embarrassed by this episode and doesn't want it analysed in any detail.

Perhaps the next attempt at a media release will be tomorrow afternoon, just before the National Draft dominates the footy pages?

Good reason for us to pursue him...

You would think Gordon will get on the front foot and deal with Wilson after the finding is announced.
Don't see him as the passive bystander type.

The reaction from Caroline Wilson is very surprising. The outcome from the AFL of course is not.

If Wilson is acknowledging the fact that Cheney had several opportunities to set the record straight (but didn't, because he wasn't 'joking' until pressured into saying so), and that the Talia brother 'lost phone/deleted tests' (even I know how to access and read deleted text messages on an iPhone - http://www.tenorshare.com/products/iphone-data-recovery-win.html if the AFL would like to know for next time) is clearly suss to everyone but the most one-eyed Crows supporter, why is she jumping on our back?

Behind the scenes Gordon, Beveridge and Co will be quite rightly fuming at the result, at least we've done our bit in sacking Talia the minute this came out. It's just infuriating that Cheney and the Dogs come out of this as the bad guys, whilst the Talia brothers get off, much like the bullshit that Daniel pulled with his speeding fine for a sick cat.

Regardless, Michaels name is quite rightly tarnished and he'll be back playing bush footy in a few years time where he belongs.

Retrieval of deleted text messages is a piece of piss. Surely if the Talia brothers are as innocent as they would have us believe, then Daniel gives his telco permission to release the text messages to the AFL investigators. That this hasn't happened says it all.

Caroline Wilson's take is interesting. I wonder what tune she'd be whistleing if one of her junior staffers had a sibling at News Corp and as a result of some innocent chat between siblings, blew the lid off an exclusive she was running a few days before it was due to be published.

I don't mind her point of view if in fact nothing material was discussed by the Talia boys (which is entirely possible), but in light of the facts not being publicly available, and a suggestion that one brother lost his phone after an investigation had already begun, and the other brother deleted the texts, I'm not sure I'm following her line of inquiry on it.

just been announced on channel ten after they finished the sports news report. as he was coming to a close they said (news just in) Michael Talia has been cleared by the AFL of leaking any secret team information.

weak as piss

Of course, they inspected the messages and everything

He may
May I state here whatever you do do not believe a thing Rucci says. He is a renowned bullshit artist in our part of the world. Our clubs don't even go to him for major club promotion pieces. Not saying I know what happened but don't believe the Roach.

He may well be bullshitting but in this case he certainly isn't the only one.

In case you hadn't seen the AFL report... here it is.

Nothing to see here, folks. The innocent have been duly punished. Move along now.

Cheney cops conduct warning, Talia brothers cleared
Michael Whiting November 25, 2015 5:29 PM

MICHAEL Talia have been cleared of sharing game-sensitive information with his brother Daniel ahead of the second elimination final between Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs.

But in its findings released on Wednesday, the AFL has issued a formal warning to Crow Kyle Cheney for his conduct as part of the incident.

Michael Talia – the former Bulldog who switched to the Sydney Swans during the off-season - was at the centre of the investigation after the Bulldogs reported the incident.

It was alleged he provided game-sensitive information to Daniel, the Crows' fullback, prior to the final.

The brothers confirmed there was a phone conversation and several text messages in the lead-up to their match, including Daniel's likely matchup on Bulldog Jake Stringer.

The potential problems really came to light based on on-field statements made by Cheney against Hawthorn the following week, inferring the Crows had received some inside help the week before.

These allegations got back to the Bulldogs and they reported the incident to the AFL's integrity department.

In his statement to the AFL, Cheney said his comments of receiving game-sensitive information from Michael Talia were made "in jest as part of friendly banter" with a mate.

The AFL said Cheney should have clarified this with the Bulldogs sooner.

"The AFL is satisfied that the evidence does not support any finding that the rules have been contravened," AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said.

After interviewing a further 16 people, the AFL found no intention between the brothers to leak sensitive information, but have formally warned Cheney.

You know what? I genuinely don't think that Talia intented to leak the gameplan, and he genuinely accidentally told his brother some information.
However it's the sweeping under the carpet, the Cheney "joking", and the convenient delete/lost phone excuse that has me shaking my head. Furthermore one can only guess as to the extent of the information or whether Adelaide nefariously used any information... but at the end of the day the people I'm pissed off most at is the AFL and their ironic integrity unit.
