Cubs win! Cubs win!
The Cubs beat the Cardinals 8-6 at Wrigley tonight. A win tomorrow and they'll be in the National League Championship Series against either the New York Mets or the scumbag Dodgers. If the Cubs lose tomorrow then it's back to St Louis for the decider.

My new haircut?

You have the peoples beard on the back of your head...or an artistic impression of a sage and 4peat premiership easton wood.... AWESOME

Seems old Tex has made a bit of a "galoot" of himself on Twitter.

Took on Nick Kyrgios, totally unprovoked, and was absolutely scorched.

The hate for Kyrgios is honestly baffling. He'd certainly make better company than the "flog" brigade that are determined to cut him down.

Today I head down to Melbourne to prepare for Sunday's 42km of fun (hopefully 3 hours and 52 minutes of fun). Number 3 for me in Melbourne (number 8 overall, did Canberra twice, Gold Coast twice and Perth's City to Surf once), and finishing inside the MCG. Will be wearing the local club jumper (a kangaroos jumper) with the 27 on the back, and I'll probably be one of the few runners out there with zinc on if you're looking for me.

This campaign against him has come out of nowhere, it's quite bizarre. He was beloved not very long ago at all.

So bizarre to post a highlight video of him taking a speccie. Glad Nick called him out on it.

I don't get how people would defend Kyrgios. Not that I hate him etc but he acts lick a dick on court and pissing his talent away in my view o_O

Is a bit of a dickhead at times yes but no more than your typical young tennis player in my view and the criticism of him seems way overblown. Players like Federer, Agassi and Hewitt all carried on a bit when they were kids. I fail to see how exactly he's 'pissing away his talent' either.

Anyway I'm not a big fanboy of his or anything, I just think people are over critical of him and go looking for the slightest indiscretion to hammer him about.

Herald Sun coverage of the derby last night has been ******* pathetic, as usual.

Was in attendance and never once felt threatened.

That's cause you were one of the hooligans.

Today, October 19th, my Western Bulldogs Member mum turns 90 years of age. I never would have thought that she'd live this long when I accepted the responsibility to be her sole caregiver in 2004 when my dad died. I thought I'd only be here for a year or two and head back to Melbourne to live after she passed. However, she was determined to extend my stay in this country even though she has been in hospital countless times and been to a nursing home for physical therapy twice in the past year. This year alone I have been to the ER nine times with her.

I posted a pic of her with my dad at the Western Oval when they visited me in 1979 on another thread. Below is a pic of the two of us and my late Australian born cat, Jordan, posing for an ex-pats website about nine years ago.

Good to see Chicago, say hi to your Mum from us all. Mine is 88yo :)

After living overseas for the best part of the last 12 years I've accepted a job to move home. With a young son (who calls himself Dahlhaus with pill in hand) and the promise that lies ahead, I think we are timing our return to Australia beautifully! Whilst I've maintained a membership (despite seeing 2 games in this time) I'm excited to actually use it for once. Go Dogs!

Good to hear!
Happy trails

The Cubs HAVE to win tonight(Tues). They just HAVE to. My brother made a secondary Cubs lottery and scored two tickets for tomorrow(Wed.) night. It will be my first post season game ever. I won't be too upset if the Cubs lose, except if it's the game that clinches the pennant for the Mets. That would kill me. Well, walking up that ramp to the Upper Deck might kill me first!

Oh, Arsenal. You lose to Zagreb and Olympiacos, and then beat one of the best sides in the world.

Hector Bellerin is magic.

This is all icing on the cake. I never expected that the Cubs would make the post season this year as most people didn't either. I thought next year would be the start of a few years of post season play with a WS appearance and just maybe a WS win. I'm glad it started this year so I have the chance to see a NLCS game. I doubt I'll still be here next year at this time, so tonight's a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.

For 25 years I was rarely able to see a Cubs game. Australian TV only had the NBC Game of the Week on a few years and I was able to watch some WS games when they were shown. So no matter how good or bad they've been the past 15 seasons, I've been able to see them in person at Wrigley and a few opposition grounds as well as watch them on TV much of the time. Tonight will probably be the last game I ever go to see the Cubs play, so I'm wanting them to win, but if that proves not to be the case, I'm OK with it, except that I'll be there to see the Mets clinch the pennant. I was 17 in 1969 so the memories of that year are still in my soul. It was the Cubs fault they folded, but the Mets seem to be a worthy scapegoat for it.

I will be wearing my Anthony Rizzo t shirt under my Cubs jersey tonight and the Cubs cap I purchased at Wrigley on Oct 3, 2001 the day Sammy Sosa hit his 61st homer for the season and the Cubs won. My Ron Santo pin will be on the jersey and a new Ernie Banks pin, hopefully, after I enter Wrigley Field.

Next winter(Southern Hemisphere) I hope to be able to watch the Cubs on my computer or on TV and be able to watch my Western Bulldogs in person as both teams defy the odds and win the ultimate in their respective sports.
.......................................................................

An edition: I'll also have my Western Bulldogs pin on my jersey and bring my WB jacket along with me. The weather looks fine with a temp of about 22C at gametime, though anyone who has been to Chcago knows not to trust the weather forecast and expect the unexpected(OK, I stole that line from the American Big Brother show, I confess.)

I've been to 2 games in person & I was glad my first was a Cubs game at Wrigley. Lost 10-1 to the Astros ~3yrs ago though lol, but good to see both teams are now up & about.

The other was a few weeks ago when I went to Dodger Stadium against the Diamondbacks. Again, home team lost but I could enjoy it although the atmosphere would have been a bit better if they were winning or won.

I am a Blue Jays fan & now taking more interest in the sport because blue is my favorite colour & because they drafted me in MLB the Show hahaha

Well another year for the Cubs. All you can do is try to get another entry to the 10 team lottery that is the MLB postseason and hope that an average player turns into Joe Jackson Lou Gerhig and Babe Ruth combined.
